Southeast Queens showed up in a big way! 💙✨

GJDC was proud to attend the 5th Annual Queens Ball, hosted by the Greater Allen Development Corporation (@greaterallendc), which continues the legacy of Rev. Dr. Floyd H. Flake and Elaine Flake (@meflake) by advancing opportunity and community development.

A special congratulations to our President & CEO, Justin Rodgers, on receiving the Floyd H. Flake Rising Star Award! 👏🏽

We also heard remarks from Rev. Al Sharpton (@real_sharpton) and celebrated fellow honorees Senator Leroy Comrie (@senatorcomrie), Queens Borough President Donovan Richards (@queensbprichards), Assemblywoman Alicia Hyndman (@assemblymemberalicialhyndman), and Carolyn DeVore (@devoredance).

The evening was a meaningful celebration of legacy, leadership, and the continued progress of Southeast Queens. ✨

Day 339 of 1,000 | 1000 Days to Build a Birth Center Campaign

💛 GENERATIONS OF LOVE: HONORING THE VILLAGE 💛

Today was more than a service.
It was a moment in history.
We had the honor of joining the congregation of St. Gabriel’s Episcopal Church in Hollis, Queens for a beautiful day of worship, fellowship, remembrance, and new beginnings as St. Gabriel’s welcomed the congregation of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church into their church family.

This was the first united service of St. Gabriel’s and St. Stephen’s two congregations becoming one.

After nearly 125 years, St. Stephen’s held its final service in its Jamaica home last Sunday, closing one chapter while carrying its history, people, traditions, and faith into another.

Today, we witnessed Generations of Love in action.
We witnessed history being carried forward.
We witnessed a village making room for more of the village.
And we witnessed what happens when we remember that a church is not just its building. A church is its people. Its stories. Its faith. Its love. Its legacy.

Congratulations and blessings to the newly united St. Gabriel's & St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. 💛

May the generations before you continue to guide you, may the generations beside you strengthen you, and may the generations coming behind you know that they have a home.
This is what generations of love looks like.

Pictured: Gloria - 97 (St. Stephens), Millicent - 93 (St. Gabriel , and Elaine - 91 (St. Stephens) We hope you enjoyed your flowers and fellowship.

Registration for birth center week continues at www.birthbyqueens.org/bcw

339 days down, 661 to go. 💛

Although originally scheduled for February during Black History Month, this celebration was postponed to March 18 due to a winter blizzard. The event nevertheless brought together community members, educators, students, and local leaders to honor the rich history, achievements, and lasting contributions of African Americans throughout Queens.

Centered around the theme "Black History Is Queens History," the celebration recognized outstanding community leaders, honored scholarship recipients, and highlighted the importance of education, leadership, and civic engagement for future generations.

As one of New York City's most diverse boroughs, Queens continues to be shaped by the stories, accomplishments, and resilience of its Black communities. The event served as a reminder that Black history is not confined to a single month—it is an enduring part of Queens' identity and America's shared story.

KCMB-TV was honored to cover this inspiring celebration and speak with community leaders, educators, scholarship recipients, and attendees about preserving history, empowering young people, and building a stronger future together.
