As a young girl, you couldn’t pay me to wear my hair pulled back to show my forehead, or to wear any open toe shoes! Talk about insecurities and fear of criticism. As a grown woman, you can’t pay me to gather an atom sized care about what aaaaaannnnnyyyyyybody has to say about me! 😂 whew, chile! The growth! 🤌🏾

I don’t recall the exact moment “the switch” came on, but it started in my early 20s. I realized that those who talk about people have insecurities of their own and often project their hate of themselves onto others. Often times, their way of dealing with their demons is to (attempt to) cause hell in other people’s lives.

It became evident what others said about me had absolutely nothing to do with me. In addition to that, I messed around and read the scripture that told me I was made in God’s image (Gen. 1:27)?! Aaaannnnd that I was fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14)?! Come on now. Can’t argue Bible my boi! And on top of all of that, I started looking more & more like my beautiful mother. The case was officially closed.

Ultimately, I became aware of who & Whose I am. I begin to accept all of me, and gave thanks for what mattered: my mobility, sanity, and wellbeing. I also focused on what I could improve and daily habits to adopt to keep me anchored in truths about me versus the lies others projected.

To me, it’s about being the best version of you. Just do your best with what you have. It’s enough. And so are you, just as you are.
