Tuesday, October 13 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM GMT join us to explore what happens when collective imagination is sustained long enough for a community to begin seeing itself — and its place — differently? Drawing from three years of work in Kiwaatule, Kampala, this Seed Swap follows a community journey from imagining a better neighbourhood toward perceiving the wetland, residents, land, livelihoods, culture and future generations as one living whole. Abdul will share how neighbourhood conversations gradually became a practice of listening to the place, making meaning together and acting on what the place is asking for. Through simple participatory practices woven into the story, we will explore what becomes possible when imagination moves beyond picturing a desirable future and begins developing our capacity to participate in bringing that future into being. It's a journey from collective imagination to collective governance to collective action. Host: Semakula Abdul is the Instigator of the Regenar Development Initiative in Uganda. In Buganda culture, his name carries the spirit of the pangolin — a keystone species and guardian of the forest. Like the pangolin, which cannot thrive in captivity, Abdul has fed his mind on unconventional ways of knowing — intuition, systems thinking, and indigenous wisdoms — rediscovering himself as a guardian of Buganda’s biocultural consciousness and escaping the colonial, mechanistic narratives that keep communities captive to extraction. That journey, from web developer to civic, social, and climate innovator, was always driven by one question: What is the root cause? The answer led him to studying Regenerative Development & Design, System Evolution, Value Adding Process, at the Regenesis Institute and Finance for a Regenerative Economy at the Capital Institute — and ultimately home, to Kiwaatule, a Kampala suburb where wetlands face extinction. There, Kiwaatule-2030 is weaving land, stewardship, money, and wellbeing into one living governance system rooted in Obuntu by awakening bioregional consciousness one neighbourhood at a time. First up for the local imagination events - a beautiful initial in-person London gathering for our community of collective imagination practitioners, held last Friday. The session was held in a room looking out over the river Thames. We were joined by community crew from all over - Leeds, Margate, Bristol, as far as the US! The convening energies were strong with this one ✨ Big thanks to community member Karo Szarmach for stepping in to host. Post-gathering Karo shared: “what stayed with me was collective imagination = collective intelligence, and that we can enter at different levels depending on what level of consciousness we’re working with. A question I am working with is how might we affect the level that constrains imagination through fear.” Since the gathering, attendee Jessica Ball - @creatingmeaning - has published a blog with her reflections. You can find the link to this blog in our bio 🔗

“Playing, Dreaming, Worldbuilding” is a creative gameplay workshop facilitated by artist Kruthika NS (TheWorkplaceDoodler), empowering players to reimagine, rebuild, and rewild the worlds they WANT to live in. The game offers players a space to dream of collective futures that resist imaginations laced with dystopia, helplessness, and destruction — so much of which is being fuelled by the technological systems of the present. Through imaginative play and collaborative dialogue, players will challenge existing societal structures, explore their collective desires, and lay seeds to future worlds they want to inhabit.

Happy Disability Pride Month fab folks! Disability Pride Month glimmers due to the truly beautiful & brilliant things that happen when Disabled people are enabled to innovate together. Innovations such as our ‘Working Together in Troubled Times’ event. UR heard from Scottish social & climate justice change makers that they were feeling isolated & like giving up. The Universal Recognition movement’s Disabled members decided to take action in local solidarity. We worked with DEAL @doughnuteconomics to facilitate a local festival as part of Global Donut Days that offered hope & rest to all Scottish organisers whatever their social mission. The event offered new community connections that many folks needed to carry on. The event was a proud moment for our Disabled organisers. This Disability Pride we want to platform & champion the achievements of our Disabled communty. Our members are Disabled, Chronically-ill or Neurodivergent creatives. They shape, start & take-part-in: accessibility, wellbeing and cultural projects. If you want to celebrate Disabled folks’ achievements this Disability Pride get-involved by saving this post for reference & forward it to someone who needs to hear some positive Disability Pride news today! Description: A carousel post including the above text and photographs of UR’s Working Together in Troubled Times event. Featuring guest speakers: @josielong , Gray Crosbie aka @plantpowered_poet and Selina Hales from @refuweegee. The event panel is hosted by Rebecca Lee aka @rebeccaleedesigndoc. Text on the panel slide reads ‘Working Together in Troubled Times Storytelling for Change - Panel Chat. Our initial panel questions hava been curated by organisers from the Disablod led Univereal Recognition movement’. Everyone is in a bright event room at @thesocialhub.glasgow complete with lush green plants and green interior design backdrop. Folks smile and wear bright colours in their panel slide photographs. People at the event chat enthusiastically. A man in a wheelchair facilitates one of the tables. People smile on a conference call screen. The Disability Pride flag is displayed alongside them. #DisabilityPride #UniversalRecognition Disability Pride Month glimmers due to… UR’s Working Together in Troubled Times edition.
