BEST UNIFORMS: BARKADA — WOVEN INTO THE GAME

Look closely at the uniform.

Not just the number.
Not just the colors.
Not just the word BARKADA across the chest.

Look at the patterns.

Because this jersey was never meant to simply tell you what team we play for.
It was meant to remind us who we carry with us when we play.

Across the uniform are geometric patterns inspired by the weaving traditions and visual languages found throughout the Philippines, patterns built from lines, triangles, diamonds, repetition and symmetry. Filipino textile traditions are incredibly diverse, from the inabel weaving of Northern Luzon to the t’nalak of the T’boli, the inaul of Maguindanao, and the intricate textiles of Indigenous communities across the archipelago.

There is no single “Filipino tribal pattern.” Each community has its own history, meanings and traditions. So we wear these designs with respect, not as a claim to one specific Indigenous symbol or tribe, but as an homage to the larger Filipino tradition of weaving identity into what we wear.

And that idea means something to us.

Because weaving is what Barkada is.

Different families.
Different hometowns.
Different stories.
Different generations.

One fabric.

The repeating triangles and angular lines along the jersey evoke mountains, movement and generations connected to one another. The diamond-like geometry calls to mind the symmetry found throughout Philippine weaving: individual threads crossing until something stronger emerges.

One thread by itself can break.

Woven together, it becomes difficult to pull apart.

That is Barkada.

SWIPE —>

Across the chest sits another unmistakable image: the sun and stars of the Philippine flag.

The eight rays of the sun honor the eight provinces associated with the earliest organized resistance against Spanish colonial rule during the Philippine Revolution. The three stars historically represent the Philippines’ three principal island groups—Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

So when one of our players walks onto the court, history walks with them.

Not history trapped inside a textbook.

Living history.

The history of people who crossed oceans.
Parents and grandparents who st

At Barkada,
we celebrate every language,
every neighborhood,
every culture that walks through our doors.

Filipino.
Black.
Latino.
Asian.
Pacific Islander.
White.
Indigenous.
Every story belongs here.

Because solidarity
is stronger than sameness.

And identity
grows brighter
when it is shared.

So when someone asks,
“What does Barkada mean?”

Tell them—

It means carrying someone else’s backpack
when they’re tired.

It means making room at the table.

It means understanding
that championships fade,
banners gather dust,
and trophies eventually lose their shine…

But the people
who walked beside you—
those become your history.

Those become your home.

This is Barkada.

Not just a team.

Not just a program.

A promise.

That we will leave every player
more confident than we found them.

More compassionate than yesterday.

More connected to their culture.

More committed to lifting others
as they climb.

Because in the end,

our greatest victory
will never be measured by the scoreboard.

It will be measured
by the lives we change,
the communities we strengthen,
and the generations
who will one day say—

“Someone believed in me.

Someone called me family.

Someone showed me what Barkada truly means.”

BARKADA BASKETBALL. JUST US. 🇵🇭❤️
