My therapist told me that I have a strong want and need for advocacy and justice. And she could not be more right.
For the last 7 days I spent time in Athens, Greece with a student led organization with my university. Where we got to shadow and help doctors in specialties like Pediatrics, Ophthalmology, Gynecology, and Dental, and ENT. They took the time to show us and teach us about procedures, techniques, and show us the WHY behind the care that they give. They allowed to us to be hands on and help them throughout the processes of different appointments. We got to see how they help fill the gap between the public health sector and NGO’s when providing medical care to refugees within the Athens community. I cannot even begin to explain how this trip was life changing. Making new friends, meeting new people, learning about the Greek culture, and working with two different clinics within the community. We went to two different boys shelters, and that opened my eyes to the deep struggles for the young refugees who flee from their home countries to seek asylum in Greece. This trip showed me the type of healthcare provider I want to be in my future career. We had THE BEST coordinators through out this trip, and I will miss them dearly🥹 thank you Arash for letting me take out your wisdom teeth stitches🦷it was not a goodbye, but a see ya next time.
