These are re-edits of some of my favorite images from 2019. Honestly, I could have picked another dozen, but these ten felt like a pretty good snapshot of where I was creatively that year.

Going back to older work is interesting because I still recognize myself in these photographs. My style has always been pretty simple at its core: the person is the hero.

I love a portrait where someone feels at ease. There can be a little mystery, a little confidence, some quiet energy, but I never want the photography or the editing to overpower the person in front of the camera. I want the image to feel beautiful now and hopefully still feel beautiful ten years from now.

What has changed is mostly subtle.

I retouch less aggressively than I used to. Skin has more texture. The eyes are still important, but I don't push them quite as much. I'm more interested now in keeping the little things that make someone look like themselves rather than trying to make everything perfectly smooth.

I also think I've become much more aware of composition. I've always loved expression and connecting with the person I'm photographing, but today I pay more attention to how the subject sits within the entire frame, the balance around them, the environment, and where your eye naturally goes.

So these aren't meant to reinvent the photographs. They're still very much my images. I'm just looking at them again with a few more years of experience and a slightly lighter hand.

Warm. Human. A little mysterious. And hopefully timeless.

Went up to Denver this weekend to run in the Broncos 7k. We all had personal goals, which we all exceeded. Great job everyone! My goal was to be under 9 minutes per mile. Thanks to coach Mikayla and the 8 week training plan she put me on, I ran 8:45 min/mi pace and finished in just under 38 minutes.
