Unmute the Mark Isham and imagine this post as an 80s film montage. A visit to Joe’s Collectables yielded three beautiful vintage Life magazines. I took them on a trip to what used to be called Kinko’s. RIP Kinko’s. Prior event posters for Kaitei had a vaguely Japanese theme. I gave this image a go. A little too on the nose. Nonetheless, the full enlargement is beautiful and now taped up at home. These paratrooper images were what initially caught my eye. First thought best thought.
I’m not loving these digital copiers. The analog machines were phased out years ago and the 1:1 image transfer was far superior. Putting the layout together. I cut strips from the field to anchor the bottom of the composition. Yep. 25 years ago I would have been on an XP machine running cracked Photoshop 6. Today it’s enshittified inDesign on a Mac.
Font is Mrs Eaves XL Serif from Emigre, the original digital foundry. The completed layout, about to meet the copier bed. The finished poster out in the world. Slop til you drop kids. Stay in school.
