Good times last night at Desert Bingo - our community showed up big time for the Mil-Tree Desert Bingo FUNdraiser putting $1020 in the bank!

Congrats to all our winners - Pat is now the owner of LOUSY TRUCKER HAT NO 25 and the last of the brown colorway.

Loved the Bonnie Tyler singalong and desert bingo dance party … 5 minutes exercise every hour folks! It’s good for you! 😜

We’ll be back next week playing for the Joshua Tree No-Kill Shelter! Catch you then - in the meantime have a fantastic week!

We dug the ditch 8-12in deep with a gentle slope towards the Northwest corner, lined it with 4in of mulch, then added sand, gravel, and rocks to give it a finished look. It’s deeper than the final project looks- but water can fill in the spaces you can’t see, basically letting us have a big ditch that isn’t a hole or a tripping hazard. You could add this at home, and just fill with mulch.

WHY spend so much time with this ditch?? A dry catch or swale like this is designed to capture and hold water during a big rain event- allowing it to slow down and soak into the ground, instead of being lost through runoff. Our garden is at the top of the hill, so getting more water in the ground will help our native trees and plants get established. This swale will hold 25-30 gallons of water, which across a big rain event can double as the water soaks in. Once the water is in the ground, it is available to the plants for months and even years, depending on the infiltration rate. Much better than using irrigation or buying a giant storage tank to store water in.

Thanks to our partners @CAstateparks, @CalArtsCouncil and @ParksCalifornia for their support.

Thanks to everyone that came out to our Seed Starting Party for @reach_artlands on Tuesday morning! We made good progress on planting the seeds for the plants that will eventually go in our community garden at Sylvan Park in Redlands.

Big thanks to @surfinuofr, the sustainable garden at @universityofredlands, for allowing us to use their space as well as their greenhouse and outdoor areas to start the plants!

Thanks to our partners @castateparks, @calartscouncil, and @parkscalifornia for their support. Without them, this project wouldn’t be possible.
