Dear @buildingbok tenant community, Thank you so much for accepting me the way you all have. For humoring each and every question I have about your business and being so willing to be humans first and foremost. It’s so hard to be a small business owner but it feels less hard with each of you who inspire me by showing up day after day believing in what you do to the core of your souls. It feels like what we’re all doing here is something more than kismet. I count my blessings daily to be here and exist in this moment in time. There is no other group of people I would want to be surrounded by. Thanks for having my back. I forever have yours. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. Love you. Mean it.

So forever ago in the world of instagram i revealed a piece of artwork I called Welcome Stranger. I talk a little bit about why and when it started. I linked it here.

But now I am so excited to say some of my plans are coming to fruition!

So Lets talk about it.
I am running a donation drive for the @jenkintownfoodcupboard

And the prize for the highest donation will be this amazing (if I say so myself) piece of art!

Additionally all donators will be entered into a drawing for a 12"x18" signed archival art print.

But you ask how do you go about donating?
Well you can visit the original piece of art on display @capricornbookshop and donate via qr code there

Or

You can copy the link here to donate as well https://gofund.me/66410b1e9

Thank you so much for helping make our community fuller!

Join me for my first solo show, Uloma - “Good Home,” on Friday, July 17th from 6-9 PM at @dgprintlab in the @buildingbok!

Uloma (meaning “good home” or “beautiful home” in Igbo) features photos taken during my time in Nigeria in November–December 2024. During this trip, I visited my paternal grandmother, Uloma, with whom my three siblings and I spent our childhood in an intergenerational home in Nebraska. This visit marked my first return to my ancestral home in adulthood. This show offers a glimpse into the beginnings of an ongoing project centered on time spent in the Motherland. It’s a promise to return to the continent. This array of images captures the familiarity, beauty, and warmth of West African culture.

Feeling the rainy vibes…
First 2 photos: Rainy Daze - City Hall, abstract photograph, printed on cotton rag and mounted to wood panel, 9 x 12in. This is back from being shown at Helix Gallery and available to purchase if interested.

The next 5 photos are also shot through glass, taken over time in Philly on rainy days. As a painter, when I use photography in an art piece, I’m more drawn to capturing an abstract or surreal vision using my natural surroundings, instead of editing/altering. Often inspired by Saul Leiter, photographer and painter. If you’ve seen the movie Carol, the cinematography was also inspired by Leiter (last 3 photos).

*The work shown in first 2 photos was printed by @dgprintlab Dave located in @buildingbok - highly recommend!
