Would it improve your quality of life if there was somewhere in your city with free live music every single night? Comment & Share if you agree!

This is the vision behind No Cover Show Grants at scale.

Tim’s Tavern in White Center shows a version of it: live music every Thursday for free, all ages, no cover, neighborhood energy. @timstavernseattle actually has live music almost every night, check them out.

@fremontfridays shows another: multiple stages, multiple businesses, people bouncing around the neighborhood because the multiple stages gives them a reason to be there and explore.

Let’s take these blueprints and scale them across the county. We create a $5 million No Cover Show Grant fund using existing 4Culture / Doors Open arts dollars

The model is ridiculously simple: A coffee shop, restaurant, bar, community center or park applies to host music.

A nonprofit handles the booking and keeps a nominal 10-15%.

The musician gets paid. The public pays no cover.

Proposed rates:
$150 daytime solo
$200 evening solo
$350 duo
$500 full band

At avg $350 per performance, $5 million could create around 14,000 paid gigs a year.

Fourteen thousand!!!!

Now connect it to @soundtransit

Imagine hearing a musician during your morning or evening commute, scanning a QR code and finding out they’re playing a free show that night somewhere else in King County.

Hear the artist at the station.
Follow them into the neighborhood.
Grab dinner.
See the show.

Now you have an ecosystem.

Artists get WAY more gigs, more money and more time practicing their craft in front of people.

Businesses get customers.

Neighborhoods get activity.

Transit gets a little more humanity.

We get something government doesn’t talk about enough: quality of life.

We have the musicians.
We have the businesses.
We have the arts dollars.

We just need to connect them with a plan.

Pay the artist. Remove the cover. Fill the county with music.

I want King County to become a place where great live music is so common you almost accidentally run into it every day.

Would that improve your quality of life? If you agree contact me & let’s make this reality! #whitecenterseattle #seattle #livem
