Dhoom SF Presents: Daytime vibes, South Asian fusion sounds & queer artistry! 📢Afrodesiac Cancelled 🙏🏽

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

For weeks, we shared the painful reality that we were at risk of closing. We have now lost our home at 837 Turk Street, but we are preparing to move, rebuild, and begin again.
Yet there is hope: we are very close to securing a smaller, sustainable space in San Francisco, and we hope to begin bringing our programs back starting slowly. And we are gratefully hopeful that Supervisor Rafael Mandelman and his office and the Agency of Human Rights will further their efforts toward finding a path forward for us.
What a unseen moment for Parivar to become our own independent 501(c)(3), EIN 61-2295602 in these times. It only gives us hope. We are especially grateful to TransCanWork, for helping us reach this chapter with unconditional support and guidance.
When we said we might close, community showed up. Our deepest gratitude to the SF LGBT Center, SFAF, Non Stop Bhangra, MaitriBayArea, Bhangra & Beats, Into The Streets, TransLatin@ Coalition, Queerly Complex, TheRubyHouseSF, Lavender Phoenix, SF People’s Budget, SF Queer Film Fest, OkanLawImmigrationGroup, TJFP, San Francisco South Asians, Dhoom SF, AudioChuck and every individual donor, volunteer, program participant and friend who reached out.
But our work is far from done. Much of the support we have received has come from our own program beneficiaries and people already living on the margins, they should not have to carry the responsibility of rebuilding Parivar alone.
We need San Francisco to come forward now: connect us with philanthropists and foundations, start a fundraiser at your workplace, activate your ERG and employee match, organize a grassroots fundraiser, volunteer digitally, or introduce us to people who can invest in this work, volunteer your expertise in fundraising, grant writing, accounting (CAAP), or technology.
We lost 837 Turk, but we did not lose Parivar. Help us secure our next home, bring our programs back, and rebuild together right here in San Francisco.

some glimpses of the queer joy experienced at @dhoomsfpresents Femme last month! this performance was inspired by the many queer fake desi wedding parties I had seen put on by drag artists all over the world
📸 by @edgarmcaptures
now here is a storyteller! #KalypsoKalayanam

with my darling drag children @u.v.shakthi & @alooarjun.drag to stand in as a bride and groom who I ceremoniously unite then unceremoniously break apart then unite again (bc I’m bi womxn trade)

this dhoom was so fun and reiterates the importance of these queer desi spaces as a haven for these forms of artistic expression - a joy to be in community with each and everyone who attends and supports these events

until next time 🙏🏾🫦❤️🌸 #DesiDrag #Drag #QueerDesiParty #Pride
