On Friday, October 16th, the Irish AeroPress Championships are taking over Bakestone on Perry Street, Cork City — and we’ve got 36 of Ireland’s finest coffee nerds, baristas, brewers and AeroPress obsessives ready to battle it out. 👀

Over the coming days, we’ll be introducing you to the contestants who’ll be stepping up to the brewer, weighing, grinding, pouring and praying their way to victory. 😂☕️

Proust’s madeleine

And suddenly the memory returns. The taste was that of the little
crumb of madeleine which on Sunday mornings at Combray
(because on those mornings I did not go out before church-time),
when I went to say good day to her in her bedroom, my aunt Léonie
used to give me, dipping it first in her own cup of real or of lime-
flower tea.
The sight of the little madeleine had recalled nothing to my mind
before I tasted it; perhaps because I had so often seen such things in
the interval, without tasting them, on the trays in pastry-cooks’
windows, that their image had dissociated itself from those Combray
days to take its place among others more recent; perhaps because of
those memories, so long abandoned and put out of mind, nothing
now survived, everything was scattered; the forms of things,
including that of the little scallop-shell of pastry, so richly sensual
under its severe, religious folds, were either obliterated or had been
so long dormant as to have lost the power of expansion which would
have allowed them to resume their place in my consciousness.
But when from a long-distant past nothing subsists, after the people are
dead, after the things are broken and scattered, still, alone, more
fragile, but with more vitality, more unsubstantial, more persistent,
more faithful, the smell and taste of things remain poised a long
time, like souls, ready to remind us, waiting and hoping for their
moment, amid the ruins of all the rest; and bear unfaltering, in the
tiny and almost impalpable drop of their essence, the vast structure
of recollection.

It's my Irish anniversary! 🫶🏽

'Why Ireland?' is probably the question I've got the most since moving here today, 8 years ago. I've always replied that my dream was to be bilingual and living abroad for some time and, what it meant to be 8 month as an au pair ended up in this adventure.

They say an image it's worth a thousand words, and I have MANY. It was really hard to choose, but here it is.

2017. Cliffs of Moher
2018. Inishmore
2019. Cobh from a boat
2020. St. Finbarr's in the sunset
2021. Opening fairy doors in Kinsale.
2022. Fota Gardens in Autumn
2023. Cork City from Shandon Bells
2023. Mizen Head (4th time there and still breathtaking)
2024. Gougane Barra (lost count how many times I've been).
2024. The Dark Hedges in NI (in my bucket list for years)

12. Found a taste from home in our local Tesco 🥹

And now I can reply to 'why Ireland?' With 'why wouldn't I?

This tiny giant may not be a Beamish girl yet, but Cork, you have stolen my heart!

My first cupping with @thecoffeequest on Irish soil, so I would have never expected this turn out! Roasters, Batista's, coffee aficionados - even the next generation was there to slurp some brews and support the coffee community.

This would have never been possible without the incredible @cafemoly_roastery working so hard to host these events and create such a buzz around specialty coffee of *all* species of Coffea (Viva la Canephorication!!). As an importer, it is a different level of relationship when you see the values you fight for yourself, reflected in the words and practices of your clients.

I feel so incredibly lucky that I get the joy of traversing the green bean world with you.

Huge thanks to everyone who came along to our cup tasting competition last evening, it was a blast!

Thanks so much to the competitors for taking part, it was great to see everyone really getting into the spirit of things! And a huge congrats to the winner @hyerinoej from @coolhandcoffeeroasters , down to Cork for a day trip with her sister, she wandered into our cafe for a coffee, was cajoled into entering the competition and then only went and won the thing with 20 minutes left before her train back to Dublin! 🤣
