DISSENT IS PATRIOTIC. This Fourth of July, I want to tell you about some work I did last month that I’m really proud of.

I production designed and hand lettered signage to create a set for “Rise Up, Sing Out” a concert for the first amendment on June 14, led by Jane Fonda and directed by Schele Williams. @1acommittee

Most of these signs I hand painted at my studio myself in 3 days and the design and execution was done in a mere 10 days start to finish.
This was not without the help of a few key people, mostly @diggle_designs my partner in crime and engineer without whom I could not have done this, but also Rene Webber, whose lettering work I saw on Big Foot the musical, and who made a few of these signs for me, my favorite being “Stronger Together” and the others on that slide here. And to jonno and Justin for creatively getting these packed so they didn’t get ruined in transit and would fit out my studio door!

“The World is Watching” Sign I made in one hour on the day of the show, ran it from my studio across Times Square to Town Hall on foot and in the heat, due to World Cup traffic. We got it put up 1 hour before curtain by the amazing crew there, who also got our rigged pieces up that morning in a mere 20 minutes.

More than 1,500 watch parties across all 50 states brought people together in person to meet, organize, and sing out. Keep rising up, marching on, and singing out. Happy 250th, America. We will take back our country. And you can still view the whole thing on YouTube!

The Set Designer’s Workshop for @marcantoinebarrois

When Marc-Antoine Barrois commissioned me to do “anything I wanted” for the Full Permission room in their new flagship store, I found myself coming back to a theme in my work and research: the art of set design itself as something worth showcasing.

I loved this project not only because of the trust the team placed in me, but the future initiative of the space: to bring in emerging spatial designers and have them design whatever they want every 4 months or so. I hope as the inaugural artist here my love letter to set design came across and will pave the way for future designers.

Before I start posting more opening pics I just wanted to drop some gems from rehearsals. My coworkers are so tired of me but I say all the time theater is a team sport. It’s so true. So much of this process has been all crunch and looking someone in the eye to make the ride less scary. Between reunions with old friends and making new ones. I really want to hold on to the feeling of my first Broadway show. This time I’m not captioning the photos. I’ll let the subjects speak for themselves. Love y’all and I feel so lucky to take this ride with these people. Together wherever we go cuz several of you are stuck with me for life 😊.
