KALEIDOLAPSE
Organic Time Lapse Kaleidoscopes

Sunset over the harbor and boat docks of Rapa Nui, Easter Island, transformed into a shifting psychedelic tapestry of color, reflections, water and sky.

This one gets wonderfully trippy. The movement of the boats, rippling Pacific waters and changing sunset light fold into each other, creating an almost hallucinatory dance of shapes and patterns.

Set to “Voodoo Dreams” by Les Baxter. That unmistakable mid-century exotica sound, with its lush orchestration, tropical rhythms and mysterious atmosphere, feels like the perfect soundtrack for this surreal little voyage.

KALEIDOLAPSE is created entirely from my original time-lapse photography, mirrored and repeated into evolving organic patterns. No AI-generated imagery, just real-world motion transformed through symmetry.

A peaceful, dreamy afternoon along the Nunatak Nature Trail in Yosemite.

Post-monsoon clouds drifting across the mountains, their movement reflected across the lake as the light and textures slowly changed. One of those scenes where time lapse lets you settle into the landscape and notice everything moving together.

Set to “Dream” by The Pied Pipers. The soft, nostalgic quality of the song felt perfect for this one.

Gorgeous post-monsoon clouds rolling across the Eastern Sierra.

This drone hyperlapse really brings out the scale of the valley, especially with the cloud shadows racing across the landscape and constantly changing the light.

One of the things I love most about shooting after monsoon weather is how alive the atmosphere becomes. From the air, you can really see the relationship between the clouds, mountains, shadows and terrain unfolding all at once.

KALEIDOLAPSE
Organic Time Lapse Kaleidoscopes

The Milky Way rising over the Salar de Uyuni in Bolivia, transformed into an evolving celestial kaleidoscope.

At more than 10,500 square kilometers, Salar de Uyuni is the largest salt flat on Earth, sitting nearly 12,000 feet above sea level. Its incredibly flat surface can hold a thin layer of water that turns the entire landscape into a massive natural mirror, reflecting the sky and nearly erasing the horizon.

At night, that reflection makes an already surreal landscape feel almost limitless. Stretching the Milky Way, stars and mirrored horizon into repeating patterns pushes it even further into the otherworldly.

Set to “Xpander” by Sasha, still one of the greatest progressive house tracks of all time.

Every Kaleidolapse begins as one of my original time lapses, then gets mirrored, folded, rotated, flipped, scaled and keyframed into something completely different.

Straight up into the clouds over the Eastern Sierra.

The shifting elevation, layers, and textures get surprisingly trippy in time lapse. A reminder to always look up.

Gorgeous conditions in Yosemite National Park after the monsoon rains rolled through the Eastern Sierra.

This was just east of Olmsted Point, where the combination of heavy cloud cover, breaks of sunlight and the granite landscape made for a perfect time lapse. I especially love the way the sunlight moves across the mountains as the clouds pass overhead. This is exactly why I get so addicted to shooting clouds.

AURORA TIME LAPSE • VERMILION LAKES • BANFF, CANADA

Watching the brilliant aurora move across the night sky was simply breathtaking, and this timelapse captures some of the magic of being there.

KALEIDOLAPSE
Organic Time Lapse Kaleidoscopes

Sunset fading into twilight and eventually the night sky over Gautin Gatchi Valley in Chile’s Atacama Desert, transformed into an evolving celestial kaleidoscope.

This landscape already has such unusual shapes, textures and colors that it lends itself perfectly to Kaleidolapse. As the light disappears and the stars begin to emerge, those repeating forms continuously change along with it.

Every Kaleidolapse begins as one of my original time lapses, then gets mirrored, folded, rotated, flipped, scaled and keyframed into something completely different.

SADDLEBAG LAKE • EASTERN SIERRA

Amazing clouds the day after monsoon rains.

I’ve always been in love with clouds, but time lapse brings out something you just can’t see in real time. The fluidity of their motion, the constantly changing light, and especially the shadows moving across the landscape and over the mountains.

Saddlebag Lake was especially beautiful that afternoon. The reflections on the water were texturized by the summer breeze, with the mountains, clouds, light and movement all interacting with each other.

I love exploring the Tioga Pass area just east of Yosemite. Since the road is only accessible for part of the year, there’s always something special about getting back up into this high country during the summer.

I’ve also developed a real affinity for music from the 1940s. The sweeping strings, sentimental melodies and romantic feeling of that era evoke a simpler time, and they pair so beautifully with time lapse imagery like this.

KALEIDOLAPSE

The Milky Way, Magellanic Clouds and intense air glow over the Atacama Desert, transformed into an evolving celestial kaleidoscope.

Every Kaleidolapse begins as one of my original time lapses, then gets mirrored, folded, rotated, flipped, scaled and keyframed into something completely different.

Under some of the darkest and clearest skies on Earth, the Atacama already feels otherworldly. Repeating the nightscape and structure of the Milky Way transforms it into something even more abstract, geometric and hypnotic.

I never completely know what’s going to emerge until I start experimenting. That’s one of my favorite parts of creating these.
