A hidden gem in Chadwell Heath serving fully halal Japanese food!

We tried the crunchy salmon roll, spicy chicken roll, chicken yakisoba, chicken katsu curry, sweet chilli wings and spicy tuna hand roll.

The crunchy salmon roll was packed with flavour, with the crispy topping adding a really nice crunch. The spicy chicken roll had a good kick without being too overpowering, while the spicy tuna hand roll was fresh, flavourful and definitely one for sushi lovers.

The chicken yakisoba was such a comforting dish, with well-seasoned chicken, vegetables and noodles tossed in a rich yakisoba sauce. The chicken katsu curry was another favourite - crispy chicken with a deliciously creamy, rich curry sauce and a generous portion.

The sweet chilli wings were crispy and coated in a sweet and spicy sauce, making them the perfect side to share.

We headed down to try their new menu, and there was honestly so much to choose from!

What we ordered:
• NEW Nasi Kandar – seafood, lamb shank & chicken curry
• Fried chicken
• Fried aubergine

• Prawn sambal
• Beef rendang with roti canai
• Pina Colada
• Passionfruit Mojito

The Nasi Kandar is served platter-style, so you can pick and build your own plate from a huge selection of curries, meats, seafood and sides. There’s something for everyone, including plenty of vegetarian options.

The seafood platter is perfect if you’re a fish lover.

The lamb shank was one of my favourites. It had such a nice fusion of Bengali and Malaysian flavours.

The chicken curry was yummy too, especially the sauce — it was paired well with the roti canai and rice.

The fried chicken was amazing too —We loved the flavours and would definitely order them again.

Thanks for inviting us down to try the new menu! This spot is a must to visit. The menu is so huge, there is something for everyone to enjoy🤍

invited down to penang city to try their new nasi kandar platters, plates full of heritage, bold flavours and so much variety!

the nasi kandar fried chicken was a lovely surprise. it looked like it might be a little dry at first, but the chicken was actually so soft and juicy inside. my favourite had to be the lamb shank, incredibly soft and succulent, with a strong smoky, aromatic flavour. it was slightly on the saltier side, but paired with the rice and vegetables, everything balanced out really well. the seafood platter was such a different option too, with a huge selection of seafood. the fried fish was a little dry for me and the batter was quite thick and crispy, while the fish curry reminded me so much of bengali style flavours, although there were a few too many fatty pieces for my preference. the cabbage bhaji and okra bhaji were delicious and light, and i really loved the tangy sambal and mixed curry gravy on the side.

we also tried their big malaysian breakfast, which is such amazing value for the amount you get! i’m already obsessed with their beef rendang and have tried it so many times before! they’ve also newly launched their corndog, with a crispy coating, gooey mozzarella centre and all the classic toppings, definitely something nice to try alongside their many other signature dishes. and of course, you can’t go wrong with the mango sticky rice, genuinely one of my favourite desserts ever!

Penang City [Invite]

We visited Penang City in Forest Gate and finally got to try their new menu, and it did not disappoint.

What we tried:

Nasi Kandar Beef Rendang – The beef rendang was packed with flavour, with a rich, spiced curry that went so well with the rice and all the sides. The beef was really tender and paired with the extra fluffy parata >>

Nasi Kandar Lamb Shank – This was definitely one of the standout dishes for us. The lamb shank was incredibly tender and full of flavour, with the curry gravy bringing everything together perfectly.

Nasi Kandar Seafood – Such a generous platter with fried fish, prawns, squid and their fish curry. The seafood had so much flavour, and the fish curry had a lovely peppery kick that we really enjoyed. A little squeeze of lime over the seafood made it even better.

All three platters came with rice, cabbage bhaji, okra bhaji, sambal, caramelised onions, half-boiled egg and curry gravy, so there was so much going on in every plate.

The portions were generous, and the staff were so friendly and welcoming. If you’re looking to try traditional Malaysian food in East London, Penang City is definitely worth checking out.

📍Forest Gate

We visited Penang City this week and honestly… I was soo impressed! This was my first time trying Malaysian food but I’m so happy I got to finally try it 🥰 We visited their Forest Gate branch but they do also have another branch in Finsbury Park. They have a new menu which I went to try specifically, and it’s defo one you don’t want to miss out on!

What we tried:

Nasi Kandar Beef Rendang - it was my first time trying beef rendang. It was different to the spices and taste that I’m normally used to, but very enjoyable 😍

Nasi Kandar Seafood - out of all the platters, the seafood platter was our favourite! Our whole fried fish was added to that platter and WOW!! Their fried fish is defo a must try and squeezing some lime over it was perfect! Their fish curry took me by surprise, it had peppers in it, which I loved 😋

Nasi Kandar Fried Chicken - the fried chicken wings were very tasty, loved the flavour of them!

Big Malaysian Breakfast - the perfect mix for wanting your traditional breakfast items and having your Malaysian faves all in one plate. The dhal was really nice, and so was the roti. You can just taste that everything is fresh and with their kitchen being open, you know you’re in good hands!

Cheesy Corndog - I think as a side, this is nice, but with all the other options available, it’s hard to give it as much attention, but it’s a nice and cheesy corndog for sure! 😂👌🏽

Strawberry, Lychee & Passion fruit mojito - mojitos were lovely, and they didn’t lose flavour towards the end which was nice 🥰

All their platters are served with rice, cabbage bhaji, okra bhaji, sambal and curry gravy. The cabbage bhaji was honestly one of my favourites, so good! Portions are massive and it’s all presented so beautifully 🥹😍

Staff are amazing, so friendly and kind and I definitely recommend everyone to visit for some traditional authentic Malaysian food! 🤩

🇲🇾🔥 London Hidden Gems: Episode 14

HUGE upgrade to one of the true hidden gems in London!

We previously visited @penangcityuk a few months ago and absolutely loved it! So when we heard they had upgraded their menu, we absolutely had to get back for another visit!

We were full of praise last time, and the new additions to the menu have elevated the food to another level.

With really tasty new starters such as the mouthwatering corndog and the crispy prawn tempura as well as the absolutely unreal Lamb Shank Nasi Kandar, there are some genuinely top tier dishes that have to be tried! The lamb shank in particular was tender and packed full of flavour!

So if you’re craving Malaysian food, from the classics like Nasi Lemak to Roti Canai as well as the banging new additions to their menu, you have to check out @penangcityuk!

Personally preferred the meat platter over the fish - but both dishes were enjoyable - though crispy, we did find the fish itself needed a bit more flavour but the other components of the dish made up for it - 😋

Penang City has launched their new menu, and as someone trying Malaysian food for the first time, I was genuinely impressed 🇲🇾

One of the things I really liked about the new menu is that you can customise your dish by adding different sides, which makes it easy to create a combination that suits you. The dishes were beautifully presented on banana leaves, which added to the whole dining experience.

To start, we had the mix platter, and I thoroughly enjoyed the vegetable spring rolls and curry puff. Both were really tasty and a great introduction to the flavours 😍

For our mains, we tried a few varieties of their signature Nasi Kandar: fried chicken, seafood, and one with okra, aubergine and prawn tempura 🍤

Everything was full of flavour and really well prepared. The rice was wonderfully light and paired especially nicely with the fish curry which was very unique 🍚 I also loved the fried chicken as it was very crispy and flavourful. I wasn’t a big fan of the veggie because of the aftertaste but maybe that’s just my tastebuds.

Overall, I really enjoyed trying Malaysian food for the first time, and there were several dishes that surprised me with how much I enjoyed them. The new menu offers plenty of variety, and I love the option to customise your meal with different sides.

Definitely a great experience for anyone who loves exploring different cuisines or, like me, is trying Malaysian food for the first time!✨

Dot. Bubble Tea [Invite]

For their one year anniversary, @dot.bubbletea is doing 50% off all bubble teas and mocktails this weekend, 12–13th September.

We got to try a few of their drinks and honestly loved them all! The White Peach Blue Lagoon was so refreshing, you can pair it with popping balls too! The Crème Brûlée Bubble Tea was creamy and went so well with the tapioca. The Biscoff Bubble Tea is definitely one to try.

The place itself is really cute and cosy, with seating available, and the staff were so friendly and welcoming.
