One embarrassing loyalty points moment changed a lot for me.

Last year, I sat down and tried to figure out just how much I was spending on groceries. The number shocked me. I had been doing store runs, switching between supermarkets every month trying to catch the best price on items, only for the prices to change without warning by the time I got there.

Then someone told me the loyalty points I had accumulated across all of that spending. I was expecting something meaningful. It was a number I could barely do anything real with.

I remember thinking, I am spending all of this money and making my own life harder in the process.

Writing and rewriting grocery lists every month. Crossing the city to find great products at best prices. The ella I was getting ehn?

Watching prices move with inflation and never knowing which store had the better deal this week compared to last week.

That was when we decided that Digivo needed to build a solution.

Meet Chopback.

Snap the paper receipt the cashier hands you at any Nigerian supermarket or your neighbourhood store.

Earn reward points on every single purchase. Cash out real Naira directly to your bank account via instant transfer, wherever your money lives.

No loyalty cards to scan at checkout. No coupons to print. No barriers. Just shop, snap, and get paid.

And as you shop more, you move up the tiers. From Hustler to Senior Man, Boss, Chairman, and all the way to Odogwu at 3 times multiplier. The more you shop, the more you earn back on every receipt.

Let’s not lie, our grocery bills are real. Inflation is real. You deserve to get something back for every naira you spend.

Chopback is live. Link in bio. Your next grocery run starts earning.

When it comes to product and services, distribution is probably one of the biggest determinant for success.

How do you get your product to the hands of those who need it?

Technology has played a great role in helping who we innovate distribution, from physical logistics mapping systems to even app and online store purchases. That’s the role retail technology plays in the grand scheme of all things distribution.

Where else have you seen technology reshaping how an industry operates?

On this episode of the retail technology layer series. I talk on operation and workforce technology.

We’ve seen the emergence of HR tech, and while AI is being introduced to support this layer, we see it expanding into day to day operations as well.

Breaking down where we see technology impacting this layer and how it impact the general chain of retail success. Because product and services aren’t just about the people buying, it’s also about the people building what’s being sold.

Sales and Marketing are the heart of any business, they keep businesses running. The finest product and the most glorious teams can mean almost nothing if you’re not able to connect with your market or make sales.

From finding PMF to making sure your product meets actually connects with the market enough to not only sell because it needed, but because there’s a story people connect with that keeps bringing them back.

Retail technology in sales and marketing has redefined how people connect and buy products. From the tools they engage with to the channels they buy through.

This is the power of how retail technology expand across the layers. Tell me, what exciting technology do you think would be the next frontier for businesses to generate sales through or connect with their market better?

One of my favorites Aunties growing up was Mama Caro. She was one of the big Aunties in Eko market and everyone loved her. I especially did because she never visited empty handed and we always got money from her when she was leaving.

Mama Caro was cool, but she was also fascinating. She stored money in her folded wrapper and for years, I wondered why.

You see, she created her own banking system, payments, withdrawal and deposits all happened in that wrapper.

It’s retail processing at its finest. Payment is a layer in Retail Technology and if you thinking changing Mama Caro is easy, you’ve not seen anything. The objective is to build a close call, easy to reach and accessible way of accessing cash without walking into a bank.

That’s how payment structures in Nigeria have scaled at banking the “unbanked”. True tech meets you where you are and takes you on an easier, faster, and more efficient way of doing what you already do.

That’s today’s entry on my Retail Technology series. See you next time.

If these resonates and you want to see all the videos. Please share, like, and comments Retail Tech.

Customer Experience Technology is being created everyday, but here’s the question.

Do businesses care enough about their customers in basic non technical interactions post purchase?

Because only then would the technology bring value.

On this journey to redefining how we perceive retail technology, we need to understand the role technology plays in several layers of industries that depend on technology to scale and how that scale can be replicated across different business models.

About a week ago, I moderated the panel at @themarkhack on Data to Demand. The conversation was pure, honest and real!

Pulling from what the experts actually had going on in their unique markets and sharing intelligence on where the data gap lies and how to bridge it.

This conversation wasn’t just insightful for the audience, it pigged back on what we are doing at @digivo_ and I am beyond excited to see us being positioned for resolving some of the most interesting insight and data gaps in the market.

A huge thank you to my fellow panelist and the organizers @ekoinnovationcentre @vgafolabi
