‘A Year of Creation’ A deeper dive into the creative journey that I’ve embarked on for the past school year. After 3 years of university, I realized that I had to reorient my life’s trajectory back to creative expression and collaboration to preserve my sanity. My kid self, the one who directed fake movie trailers on iMovie with my older sister, maybe would have liked that. Little people know this, but I began the school year with a lot of creative rejections. I reached out to a lot of local cafes asking for media work, but not one single spot reached back to me. So I decided to take a risk and reach out to three Seattle-based creative directors who inspired me. I reached out to @rashidd.bar at @fitted.uw, @hoonychang at @mode_uw, and @csalfilm at @wstofedn. To be honest, I did not expect a reply back because I really believed that they were leagues ahead of me. But to my surprise, they were genuinely one of the kindest, passionate, and most receptive creatives that I have had the pleasure to work with. Rashid gave me the opportunity to join FittedUW and collaborate with other Seattle-based creatives. Carlos gave me a chance to PA for his project with @ginger.scallion and genuinely served as a career-defining mentor. Finally, Hoony gave me the chance to work in the fashion/apparel industry and let me produce media for @prairieunderground. Crazy how I started my journey with so many rejections, just to end up on a path that led me to greater opportunities and personal fulfillment. The biggest thank you to everyone who dedicated their time, effort, and creativity to making these projects possible. Big s/o to @rashidd.bar, @csalfilm, @rydo4k, @_t8t0_, @kristinbautistaa, @vihnthi, @elisahuertaenochian, @cooljapan321, @hoonychang, @echo_is_not_here, and @1joshlambros for having me on their creative directions. Can’t wait to see what this upcoming year has in store! 💫
