This team. ❤️

Where do I even begin? On day one, I told them:

“I don’t care how many years of experience you have. I don’t care if you’ve been dancing for 20 years or 20 days. When you walk onto that stage, the audience shouldn’t be able to tell the difference.”

That was the standard. And wow... did they rise to it.

Every single person on this team leveled up. They listened. They trusted the process. They showed up. They worked hard. They pushed through frustration. They practiced when nobody was watching.

And by the time they got on that stage, they all looked like ONE!

Looking back, are there things I would do differently?
Absolutely.

As a choreographer and leader, there are lessons I am taking away from this experience. I would have been more proactive in understanding the competition, connecting with organizers, learning the judging criteria, and understanding what was being rewarded. Had I known ‘theme’ was a significant criterion, I would have approached the piece very differently. Storytelling and themes are actually some of my favorite things to create. That’s my forte and I could have played on that!

There are many things I would change about my approach.

But there is one thing I would not change. This team!
Not for a second.

Because they gave me everything I asked for and then some. They trusted me when I told them they were capable of more. And together, we created something beautiful.

Did we win a trophy? No. But we built confidence. We built resilience. We built dancers.

And honestly, that’s a victory I’m incredibly proud of.
If I had to do it all over again, I’d choose this team every single time. ❤️

Three years ago, I presented a unique challenge to my beginner contemporary students, urging them to trust me blindly—quite literally! What unfolded next was nothing short of magical ✨

We did something that we had never done before.

We performed live, in front of a room full of audience, blindfolded 😱🙈🤯
Not one, but the entire crew couldn’t see.

The idea of executing even a single turn with closed eyes can be intimidating, and can leave you disoriented. Your stomach drops everytime you take a leap with your eyes closed 😱
And here, we attempted to dance blindfolded on stage!

Not being able to see the direction we’re dancing in; the fear of hitting each other if we end up too close; ensuring each step is calculated; no peripheral vision to check positions, not extending a lot because we could be too close to each other; messing up positions even if we take one step longer or in the wrong direction; there are too many things that could have gone wrong with this 💯

But we trained hard! We trained to channelize our other senses. We trained to breathe loud so we could hear each other. Brushing toes on the floor, so we don’t lose our direction 🥹

I am so proud of my students who thought they were signing up for a beginner contemporary routine, had no contemporary background, some of them were dancing on stage for the first time, and they got thrown into this 🤪

Thank you for your blind faith 🙈 Thank you for your trust. Thank you for not giving up! 🙏

We created a masterpiece that day, and it remains my proudest moment 🥹

Today is going straight into the “core memory” vault.
 Dancing with the parents of Live2Dance, those beautiful humans who’ve spent their whole lives cheering for us, spotlighting us, lifting us. Tonight, we celebrated them!

We danced, we laughed, we cried a little (okay, I choked up a few times 😭)
 And somewhere in between the steps, I selfishly collected so many blessings 🙏

When the parents placed their hands on my head, tears in their eyes, love pouring from their hearts… I felt something. It’s hard to explain… but it’s like a layer of protection wrapped around me. A kind of love that shields you, lifts you, and stays with you.
I’m so, so grateful.
 Thank you everyone for bringing your parents tonight!  Thank you for letting me be part of something this sacred. And to everyone who came to cheer them on; tonight wouldn’t have been the same without you. Thankooooo SOOOO MUCH
