A note from Vault Artistic Director & Producer Diana Bentley: Dear Vault Community, What a year it’s been! Since our launch in January we’ve built a home, a community, and an independent theatre lab for the development of new Canadian work with Coal Mine Theatre. This first year has been nothing short of extraordinary and all thanks to playwrights, actors, dramaturges and audiences who have taken a leap of faith and trust with us. We have learnt so much. This year alone we have: Hosted 4 Public Labs, over 20 Table Reads, 6 full length workshops and multiple community events for writers and dramaturges. The Vault has supported playwrights in developing brand new works through these reads, workshops, one on one meetings, mentorship and in house training initiatives. Developed 4 streams of in house development and moved 6 new plays from our submissions into these development streams. Built a creative community where collaboration, experimentation, and artistic courage thrive every day. Launched 5 in house initiatives including Nick Green and Andrea Scott’s Writers Reading, Michael Ross Albert’s First Draft, our ever popular The Water Cooler, Creation Days, The Water Cooler Residency and upcoming; The Dramaturgy Lab. Every script that took shape this year, every playwright who found a home at The Vault, every audience member who was moved or challenged by a Public Lab (and there have been many)— it all began with your belief and excitement that something like this could exist. Now, as we look toward our second year, we are thanking you for helping us launch this lab. We couldn’t have done it without you. Every ticket bought, donation made, drink bought, initiative attended– has made this first year an absolute triumph. Thank you for launching The Vault with us and for building community and a place to get down to work. We can’t wait to see you back in 2026 for more development and exciting conversations. ✨ “Beckett’s Waiting for Godot at Coal Mine Theatre is haunting, hilarious and deeply human.” ✨ The reviews are pouring in, and this Godot is not to be missed! The first two weeks are completely SOLD OUT, and the run has now been extended to October 12. Directed by Kelli Fox. 🎭 Here’s what the critics are saying: ⭐️ “What’s best about Coal Mine’s Godot is how fully its cast embodies the play’s complex emotional terrain.” ⭐️ “As Vladimir, the more chipper of the two tramps, Alexander Thomas…elicits boundless sympathy without ingratiating himself… Likewise as the ornery Estragon, Coal Mine’s ‘Chief Engineer’ Ted Dykstra exudes angst and irritation thwarted by fatigue and, on occasion, something akin to wonder.” ⭐️ “Fox’s direction is commendable for its discretion. Her nurturing performances seem both rigorous and playful, evidenced in diverting variations of cadence and physicality in the scenes where four actors inhabit the stage at once.” ⭐️ “It had been years since I’d seen Godot on stage, and my gratitude to Coal Mine’s production, whatever qualms I have, is immense. In part because of the intelligence, creativity and heart invested in the performances, but also because when you merely read Beckett’s text, you forget that its richest meanings can be felt only in its realization.” Tickets are flying — secure yours now before they’re gone. 🎟️ #CoalMineTheatre #WaitingForGodot #torontotheatre

“The Adding Machine is brimming with anxiety about technology and mass unemployment. If it were written today, we might call it ‘a little on the nose’. Because it was written a century ago, we might instead call it prescient.” The Adding Machine is more than the sum of its parts by @amarahhs
