Miami was a trip. Hot as hell but worth every minute. The delayed gratification after months of build up came to fruition as soon as I stepped on the turf.

Nothing has given me the same excitement and energy that playing football gave me. I remember my last snap of college football 9 years ago like it was yesterday. I’ve searched every day since for something that gives me the same drive, passion, and mission driven purpose to compete and get after it.

And now I’ve found that thing… and it’s here to stay.

I don’t believe there’s anything else that can congregate that many high performing people in one area at any one given time. There are pro athletes in other sports, doctors, lawyers, business owners, coaches… people all doing things at exceptionally high levels off the field all turning up to throw down just the same on the field. It’s unreal.

Aside from meeting incredible people, you get to witness some wild feats of athleticism. This being my third Apex, I’m still amazed at the freakish displays people put on.

This is the stuff that got me into coaching. Absurd showcases of raw athleticism accompanied by everyone elevating one another to be better. You can’t kill something like that. That type of culture is inevitable.

Everyone that shows up to an Apex event wins. Put that on the next marketing campaign @apexathlete.official

For years I lost myself and gave up showing up for myself because I hadn’t found anything that resonated with me to focus my own process on. My results in April showcased that.

I strolled out of the Austin event feeling that same fire I had in my playing days get relit. 6 solid months of work later and Miami was a much different story. I’m not at all satisfied with what I was able to do but I’m also extremely happy with the results as well.

I think that’s the beauty of it. The old me would have been furious about the final results. I hate losing and I left a few goals I had off the table. But me now, I’m grateful I have a lot to look forward to for 2027 already.

There’s still so far to go but look how far we’ve come.

As advertised. I am amongst the GREATEST ATHLETES in the world, and every gift I have comes from YAHWEH. I couldn’t do this on my own, and I never will. God gets the glory. Always.

My love, support, and validation come from God and my family. But as a man chasing a dream, sometimes nobody is going to give you your flowers. Some will tell you you’re not good enough. You’ll hear a lot of NOs, face closed doors, and meet people who would rather see you stop than succeed.

So today, I’m giving myself permission to pat myself on the back and say: “Good job, EJ. You’ve come a long way. Keep going.”

And to anyone chasing a dream while wondering if their work will ever be seen: I’m saying the same to you. Be proud of how far you’ve come. Keep showing up. Someone else’s inability to see your value doesn’t take it away.

Don’t conform. Be transformed. And KEEP GOING. 🙏🏾⚖️

My first APEX was more than I could’ve ever expected❤️‍🔥

What an absolutely incredible experience! I am so blessed to have been able to experience this and compete against some INSANE athletes! My goal was just to finish, but to come out with a top 25 finish was NOT what I expected. Still trying to wrap my head around it all. Blessed to be in the room, blessed to be among athletes who pushed me to compete harder, and beyond blessed to have my favorite person by my side. My biggest supporter, I couldn’t have done with without you, and it surely would not have been nearly as fun without you :)🧡💙 @ryanjoy32

@apexathlete.official , thank you so much. We’re coming back better prepared, we’re bringing the whimsy✨, and we’re coming hungrier💪🏻

First @apexathlete.official competition in the books and done!

This was the most challenging event I have ever done in my life… I have never been a college or even a high school athlete. The closest thing I’ve had to being athletic was being in the Army.

This was not only a way to test myself, but I promise to my future that I can do anything I put my mind to!

I trained for three months to get ready for this competition and just recently for the first time I was able to bench press 225 before the competition!

This was a learning experience for me And I plan to use everything I learned from this one to prepare for the next one! Me and @staceusmc was built for this!

APEX MIAMI 🔥

Had an absolute blast competing and can absolutely see myself doing another one in the future. @apexathlete.official & @timrileytraining you got something cool going here.

Fast Forty: 5.437 - Biggest win of the day. Fastest 40 in training was a 5.80. This was my first training block incorporating this much sprinting. Lots of new exposures, lots learned, lots left to grow.

The Toss: 46ft - Right where I expected it to be, definitely more in the tank.

The Broad: 6’5” - Least happy here, should have jumped 7+. Didn’t stick my first attempt and was far too conservative on the second.

The Vert: 21.5 - Probably had another few inches here. Was my first time ever jumping to a Vertec & didn’t love my approach.

The Pull: 22 Reps - Could have gritted out probably another 5 here. Didn’t have the best rhythm or timing. Not mad about it, know it could be better.

The Push: 14 Reps - Trapbar had me fried, hammy started to cramp halfway through. Bench hasn’t been my strong suit lately. Room for improvement, happy with it for now.

The Mile: 12:38 - I know i’m not a runner, no shame in that.

overall very happy with how I performed. Lots of room to grow. Not too sure whats next. Maybe another Apex. Maybe I’ll be back in the throwing circle. Either way, The build continues.
