♻️ RIVER LOOT → TROPHIES 🏆🌊

Connected with @lootthedeschutes and got a tour of their incredible collection of stuff they’ve pulled out of the Deschutes River.

Sunglasses, Frisbees, toys, rubber ducks, cassette tapes and all kinds of other river treasure. They clean the river for FREE and whenever possible track down the owners of phones, wallets, rings and other valuables and get them back home.

Now some of that river loot is getting a second life.

@lootthedeschutes is collaborating with us for Volcom’s Slice & Shred, and we’re turning recovered river junk into 19 handmade trophies for the competition. 🏆

And I NEED SOME HELP BUILDING THEM.

I’ve got the river loot, glue guns, super glue, spray paint, Volcom branding and everything else we need. We’re looking for a few creative people who want to get together, make some weird shit and build 19 one-of-a-kind trophies out of pieces of the Deschutes.

Want to help? Hit up @ariel.lee.diehl or @Caribouconspiracy.

Huge thanks to @lootthedeschutes for everything they do to clean up our river and for giving the loot a second life.

And big thanks to @volcom @volcomsurf @volcomwomens for putting together Slice & Shred and bringing it to the Bend River Wave. 🤙

DIY river surf perfection: When your buddy casually builds a board for Bend’s downtown wave 🌊 shaped in my basement 🔥❤️ @skylerlaughlin

This handmade beauty isn’t heading to the ocean - it’s made for that perfectly engineered wave right in the heart of Bend. Because in Central Oregon, we don’t wait for the coast when we’ve got the Deschutes River flowing through downtown.

Bend living: Where your friends are equal parts craftsman, waterman, and slightly unhinged (in the best way).

Nothing says “I love this town” like custom-building a river surfboard to shred the Old Mill District wave. This is the DIY spirit that makes Bend… well, Bend.

Respect the craft. Respect the wave. Respect the stoke. 🤙

From Bend to the Big Apple! 🍎 We are so honored that Bend Magazine has been nominated for 2 Eddie and 3 Ozzie Awards!

🏅The Eddie Awards (excellence in editorial content) honor outstanding articles, features, and overall editorial strategy.

🏅The Ozzie Awards (excellence in design) recognize exceptional covers, layouts, and visual presentation.
It takes our entire team, plus our trusted contributors, to put together each and every issue. We would like to extend a special thank you to Cody Rheault, who beautifully photographed the two nominated covers and the feature article!

The @folio_mag awards will be presented in New York City on October 6, and we’re thrilled to represent Bend, Oregon on such a prestigious national stage. Congratulations to everyone who poured their creativity and heart into these issues—this recognition is a true celebration of storytelling and design! Wish us luck in NYC!
