Last summer I wasn’t able to get outdoors as much as I had in the past (I only went on ONE backpacking trip?!), and I can’t wait to get back into my usual summer routine this time around ☺️

Kicked it off this past weekend with a sweet little trip to the Olympic Peninsula 💛

Christmas in New Zealand 🪻

Seeing the lupine bloom in New Zealand has been on my bucket list for years, and making the trip out here this time of year to finally see them was the best Christmas gift I could have given myself 😌

I’m usually not a huge waterfall girly (mountains are more my thing), but I make an exception for Skógafoss 😌🩵

My least favorite thing about Instagram is that I often feel boxed into only sharing photos from my outdoor adventures because that’s what my platform was built off of years ago.

But the outdoor adventures are only a small part of who I am — and sometimes I just want to wear a cute dress and take photos of me and a milkshake 😩🥤

(don’t worry I’m going to Iceland next week 😏📷)

My favorite thing about this time of year is reflecting on the past year & making new goals for the year to come 💭

2023 was a huge year of growth for me. ‘21-‘22 were personally pretty rough, and in 2023 I finally felt like I made it through to the “other side”. That’s not to say that this past year didn’t have its own struggles, but I think the main difference is now I’m better at navigating where I put my energy, being more intentional about it, listening to what my body is telling me (as opposed to believing everything my brain tells me), and overall protecting my peace.

Reflecting on 2023, I want to share some of my most notable experiences:

1. Learning how to lead climb & leading several climbs outside! Climbing is something I want to focus on more in 2024 🧗🏼‍♀️

2. Taking a mountaineering course & using those skills to summit Mt. Baker! I have my eyes on Shuksan for ‘24 🏔️

3. Finally making it to Norway & spending 3 weeks exploring under the midnight sun 🌞

4. Getting diagnosed with inattentive ADHD. This was HUGE for me & answered so many questions I had about myself & why my brain works the way it does 😂 After learning more about how ADHD manifests differently in women vs. men, I want to talk more about my experience at some point!

5. Having the strength to leave a budding relationship that I could tell was becoming emotionally abusive. It’s always hard to tell in the thick of it if you are making the right decision, but looking back, I am SO thankful I listened to my gut & stopped making excuses or giving the benefit of the doubt. Given the mental state I was in after only six months, I can’t imagine the shell of myself I would’ve been if it went on any longer. Being single will ALWAYS be better than being with someone who makes you question yourself, invalidates your feelings, or makes you feel less than 🤍

It’s so easy to get caught up in seeing what everyone is accomplishing throughout each year, but below all of that is a million other things we’re dealing with, going through, and overcoming. As I look to the next year, I’m looking forward to more accomplishments, more growth, and more of whatever the universe decides to throw my way 💥

It’s crazy to think that I brought Jasper home one year ago today. It’s been so fun to watch him learn and experience the world around him while continuing to be the sweetest, most loving, cuddly boy. I’m so lucky 🩵

If we lived in a place where fall colors existed year round, do you think we’d get tired of them? 🍂

Over the past couple years, I’ve started looking inwards a lot more and focusing on what truly makes me feel my best, both mentally and physically. And not just generic things like “traveling”… but the small, mundane things that I can do/control on a daily basis… like having a clean apartment. Or going to the climbing gym with a friend.

One of the most valuable things I’ve learned in therapy is to focus on how my body feels in certain situations, around certain people, doing certain things, etc. Do I feel calm? Content? Energized? Stressed? Anxious? Uncomfortable? Drained?

This may seem obvious to some, but it’s something I had never given a second thought. And ever since I started doing that, I can’t NOT do it. If I’m not noticing it in the moment, I’m reflecting on it later. It made me realize how much of my life was spent just going through the motions without ever stopping to think about how different things, people, etc. made me feel.

The human body is wild. I could literally go on and on about this but I’ll leave it at that. Listen to your body 💛
