Metallica and the Power of the Phrygian Dominant Mode in "Sad But True"

The iconic "Sad But True" uses the Phrygian Dominant mode (5th mode of the harmonic minor scale) to create its dark and menacing atmosphere. In D Phrygian Dominant:
➡️ D - Eb - F# - G - A - Bb - C - D

🎵 Melodic Highlights:
1️⃣ Minor 2nd (Eb): Adds tension and darkness.
2️⃣ Major 3rd (F#): Provides an exotic and dramatic touch.
3️⃣ Riffs alternating between D and Eb, reinforcing the mysterious vibe.

This melodic combination perfectly matches the song's introspective tone, making it a masterclass in how the right mode can turn riffs into art.
