Everyone knows Osaka’s Okonomiyaki… but do you know Tokyo’s Monjayaki? 🤤🔥🥢

If you consider yourself a foodie, Monjayaki (or “Monja”) is a total MUST-TRY when visiting Tokyo!

📍 Monja vs. Okonomiyaki — What’s the difference?

Okonomiyaki (Osaka Style): Thick, fluffy, pancake-like savory dish filled with cabbage, batter, pork, and topped with thick sauce and mayo.

Monjayaki (Tokyo Style): Made with a much runnier, seasoned broth batter! It spreads thin on the hot teppan griddle, cooks into a gooey, savory texture, and gets crispy and golden-brown on the bottom.

You scrape it straight off the grill using tiny mini-spatulas (hagashi)! It might look a little messy at first, but the savory, caramelized flavor is out-of-this-world good. 🤤🔥

✨ Where we ate: We stopped by an incredible Monja restaurant in Ikebukuro—such a fun, interactive dining experience!

📌 Save this post for your next Tokyo food tour!

Did you know there’s an amazing secret shrine just minutes from Haneda Airport?! ⛩️✈️✨

If you can’t make it all the way to Kyoto to see Fushimi Inari Taisha, or want to escape the massive crowds, put Anamori Inari Shrine on your Tokyo itinerary instead!

📍 Location:
Located in Ota City, Tokyo—just 1 station away from Haneda Airport on the Keikyu Line (or a quick 5-minute walk from Anamori-Inari Station). It’s the perfect place to visit right after landing or right before your flight home! ✈️

⛩️ What It Looks Like & Why It’s a Must-See:
🔴 Stunning Torii Tunnel: A vibrant path of bright red torii gates (Senbon Torii) where you can take breathtaking photos with almost zero people in the background!

🦊 Kitsune Statues: Beautifully adorned fox statues guarding the sacred grounds.

The Oeshiki festival at Kishimojin Temple took place over three days, starting on October 16th. On the final day, a procession featuring *manto* (illuminated lanterns) makes its way from the east exit of Ikebukuro Station toward the temple.
It felt quite surreal to witness a traditional event—one that has continued since the Edo period—unfolding amidst the hustle and bustle of Ikebukuro, surrounded by towering city buildings.
