This is a link to the podcast I did with my dear friend and percussionist, Damon Grant who was kind enough to ask me to be a part of it. Congratulations to Damon for his new gig with Ziggy Marley…..you deserve it. I hope you enjoy the interview. https://recording.zencastr.com/discussinperc/doug-yowell-podcast

There will be a bigger #PASIC50 photo dump later, but I wanted to single these two photos out as huge moments and memories I will keep forever.

1. When I started the @discussionsinpercussion #podcast with @marcosatorres3, our mission statement was to "Document History and Educate the Next Generation". Getting to interview the M'Boom Tribute Ensemble featuring #JoeChambers, (my friend and mentor) @stefonharrismusic as well as several other percussionists that also happen to be #HBCU professors was a historical moment. Representation matters! Seeing people that look like me, making waves in a space that doesn't always feature them equally, it made me proud to watch them perform for a packed house making history with an iconic #percussion ensemble. Getting to hear how they felt about it in our interview was just a bonus (and an honor I won't soon forget).
2. Having Hall of Fame recipient #ThomHannum (and the only percussion instructor involved in TWO drumlines with a perfect score in a @dciphotos final) introduce me was very emotional. Thom has been like a second father to me who I'm still learning from to this day. Always there to help, offer advice, and check in on my career and path in life. I will always be grateful for having him sit me down in the "red chair" at @umass to help me get organized (with a paper calendar) and continuously push me to attempt and do things I didn't know were possible. He continues to challenge me to achieve the impossible in this community of percussion players while keeping one thing paramount, "take care of each other!".

Thank you to these individuals, everyone who came to my clinic to hear me play and talk, and especially the organizations that made it possible for me to do what I do. @percussivearts, @lpmusicofficial, @zildjiancompany, @vicfirth, @remopercussion, @dwdrums, @rolandglobal @groverpro, and @sennheiser.

Hated to leave early, but as the last slides shows, it was worth it!!
Congrats to everyone who participated, and special shout out to my students past and present for their performances! #pasic50
