3/3: ART BUSINESS

My journey growing my art business started with a milestone I’ll never forget.

In 2026, I entered my first art exhibition, the Architects as Artists Awards, and was honoured to receive an award for my piece, The Belfast Seahorse.

This was the largest acrylic painting I had ever created. The seahorse was inspired by Belfast’s strong maritime history, a symbol closely connected to the city. Throughout its body, I incorporated some of Belfast’s most iconic landmarks, while its tail follows the shape of the River Lagan as it winds from Titanic Quarter through the city centre. The piece was created using pointillism, a technique that’s only fully appreciated up close. To top it all off, the painting sold on exhibition day.

But this journey started long before that.

From a young age, I was always drawing and painting for friends and family. Then in 2019 and 2020, I discovered chalk and charcoal. That discovery would eventually shape the style of artwork I specialise in today.

At the end of my placement year in 2025, I decided to take my business online. I wanted to reach beyond local sales and word-of-mouth recommendations. Soon after, I began collaborating with creators and businesses with larger platforms, helping my work reach new audiences. Since then, I’ve been fortunate enough to sell artwork to people around the world.

One thing that has always fascinated me is the eye. Whether human or animal, I believe eyes tell a story. They reveal emotion, personality and character. That’s why I began incorporating resin into the eyes of my chalk pieces, adding a unique element that brings them to life.

As my business continues to grow, my focus is shifting towards creating more one-off original artworks alongside commissions. I’m also taking my work to a larger scale, starting with an exciting mural project at David Lloyd Belfast this summer.

This is only the beginning, and I’m excited to see where the next chapter takes me. Keep an eye out for updates on the mural and future original pieces. 🎨✨
