Sometimes I meet women who can say things like,
“My mum taught me this.”
“My dad showed me that.”
“My sister helped me.”
“My aunt told me never to do that.”

And I don’t think they realize how extraordinary those sentences sound to someone who had to learn most things by stumbling into them.

There is a very specific kind of grief in realizing that some of the things you spent years figuring out were things someone could have explained to you in ten minutes.

Not because you resent the people who had that. You just suddenly understand why certain parts of your life felt harder than they needed to.

Why you had to learn some lessons through embarrassment instead of guidance. Why you sometimes still feel like you’re improvising your way through adulthood.

Why you can admire women who seem so sure of themselves while quietly wondering,“How did she know that?”

And then you realize: Someone probably showed her. Someone probably answered her questions.Someone probably gave her a warning before she had to learn the hard way. Someone probably told her what to expect.

That realization can hurt. But I hope it also gives you a little mercy for yourself. You are not bad at life because some things took you longer to understand. You were learning without all the information.

And look at you now. Still learning. Still becoming. Still figuring some things out.

If this is your story, save this for the days you start being unnecessarily hard on yourself. Send it to a girl who grew up figuring things out too. Share or repost it if you want more women to have this conversation. 🫶

P.S. I wrote more about this in my book, You Weren’t Meant to Carry It All—especially what happens when being capable becomes something you feel you have to be all the time.

Preorders close in 3 days. If you want a copy, send me a DM, and I’ll send you the preorder details.

And if conversations like this are the kind you need more of, follow @emikehjuliet. There’s more coming. 🫶

Confidence is not a personality type. It’s a relationship you have with yourself. Confidence changes the way you move through life. You stop living as though every decision is a measure of your worth. You stop treating life like an audition where you have to constantly convince people that you are deserving enough to be there.

Confident people aren’t necessarily the most accomplished people in the room. They’re the people who seem at home within themselves.

They don’t spend their lives negotiating with their own worth. They know life will humble them sometimes. They know they’ll make embarrassing mistakes, experience disappointment, be rejected, get things wrong, lose people, and occasionally have absolutely no idea what they’re doing. And none of those things scare them into becoming someone they’re not.

You don’t wake up one morning magically fearless. You build confidence in tiny moments where you choose not to abandon yourself just because something feels uncomfortable.

That is the kind of confidence I want. The kind that gives you enough internal stability to experience life without constantly questioning whether you are enough to handle it.

Which of these habits do you think you need to work on the most? Be honest.

And if one of these made you think, “Okay, I needed that,” save this post and come back to it. Share it with a friend who’s learning to trust herself too, and repost it so someone else can find it.
