Walk with us…

Today, this sidewalk leads from the kitchen to the future amphitheater.

Now rewind 310 days.

That same walk ended at a foundation pour for the new addition that’s making room for our commercial kitchen, rooftop deck, new guest rooms, and elevator.

Sometimes the best way to see progress is to look back.

How long have you been following the Nied’s journey?

It may not look finished yet, but every pipe, wire, beam, and system hidden behind these walls is another step toward giving Nied’s another 100+ years.

The finish line is finally coming into view, and we wouldn’t change the journey.

What’s been your favorite transformation so far?

Thanks for sticking with us. The best is still ahead.

Sometimes the best ideas come from happy accidents.

We had to bump out this wall to hide new sprinkler mechanicals, so instead of wasting the space, we’re turning it into a little moment for guests.

A rotating collection of Pittsburgh books, vintage postcards, a guest reccomendation journal…

But what else would make you stop and smile?

Tell us your ideas below, and follow along as we fill Nied’s with thoughtful details.

Golden hour has become our favorite visitor.

Every evening, the light pours through these windows and reminds us why we’re doing this.

Today we ordered 71 new light fixtures that will complement the original fixtures we’re restoring throughout the bar. But honestly… this light is going to be hard to beat.

What’s one space you can’t wait to see lit up when Nied’s opens?

Follow along as every piece starts coming together.

Just when we think we’ve found it all… another layer appears.

This wallpaper was hiding beneath paneling, paint, and even more wallpaper in the hotel lobby.

Now comes the hard part…

Do we try to preserve it, or document it and let the next chapter begin?

What would you do? 👇

Follow along as we uncover more of Nied’s history.

Nied’s has generations of wallpaper hiding in its walls. Now Clint from Printsburgh is helping us add the next one.

These patterns could become part of the building’s story—right alongside everything we’ve uncovered.

Which one gets your vote? Drop your favorite below and share this with an old Nied head who needs a say. 👇

Tom and Ducky peeled back the paneling and uncovered this beautiful vintage wallpaper hiding underneath.

Every room has a surprise. We just have to find it.

Would you save all of it? a piece of it?

Today’s office is still under construction.

We set up shop in one of the unfinished rooms, met with Brandon to talk custom finishes, and spent some time in the bar pulling inspiration for the hotel’s color palette.

The best design ideas always seem to come from the building itself.

What color would you pull from these spaces?

Follow along as we make hundreds of little decisions that bring Nied’s back to life.

Hidden under layers of paint and wallpaper, we found another treasure: this original hand-painted plaster ceiling medallion in the hotel lobby.

We can’t leave it where it is because of the new ceiling layout and sprinkler system—but we’re not letting it go.

We’re cutting it out and giving it a new life somewhere in Nied’s.

The question is: where should it go?

Drop your ideas below 👇 The winning suggestion might just make it into the final renovation.

We have nearly 20 original radiators throughout the hotel, and no two are exactly alike.

They’re staying.

There’s just something about radiator heat—it’s cozy in a way forced air can never quite match. (Don’t worry, every room will also have individual heating and cooling with mini splits.)

Now we need your help: what would you do with these? Paint them, polish them, or leave them exactly as they are?

Drop your vote below 👇 and follow along as we restore Nied’s one original detail at a time.

Layer by layer.

Drop ceilings. Paneling. Framing. Paint.

As we peeled everything back, the original grand archways between the bar and dining room started to reappear.

Some of the best parts of Nied’s weren’t gone—they were just waiting.

What’s a piece of Nied's history you'd love to see when we reopen?

Follow along as we uncover more of the original hotel.
