You Deserve to Live Fully 💞

Reverend Dr. Xenia’s story is one of radical reclamation of life, identity, and purpose. Diagnosed with terminal illness, she didn’t just survive... she transformed.

✨ I’m not working to die anymore. I’m working to live.
-Reverend Dr. Xenia ✨

That line has stayed with me all week.

How many of us are running on autopilot, numbing our pain, pouring from empty cups thinking that’s what strength looks like?

But what if true strength is saying: “Enough. I choose me. I choose life.”
“Now is the time for you to be selfish,” she says.
“Now is the time to say, ‘I need to do something different because I want something different.’”

@coachbarnesgmt_

And that shift starts in the mirror. With truth. With courage. With choosing healing, even when it’s messy.

This Friday, give yourself permission:
To rest.
To feel.
To start over.
To live.

Not for anyone else’s version of success.
But for you.

Happy Birthday to Aracelli!

My podcast partner, and a woman who showed up in my life long before either of us knew what would come of it.

We met years ago in her Butts and Guts class, back when I was living in the women’s shelter.
I was trying to rebuild. She was showing up with energy, strength, and this quiet fire.
She popped up here and there after that, always at unexpected times, always with that same heart for people.

Later, when the In The Black Project was rooted in my vision, she came with the idea to create a podcast.
A space where stories could breathe, where healing could echo.

And just like that, we launched something together.

6 months in, and we’re still learning each other. We don’t know every detail of one another’s lives.
But I know this: Aracelli has a heart that wants to help, to uplift, to build.
She’s disciplined, motivated, and living proof of what happens when you commit to growth.
She and her husband have created a beautiful, intentional life, and she still makes the time to pour into others.

Today, I’m pausing to honor that.
To celebrate who she is, how she shows up, and the part she plays in this work we’re doing.

Happy birthday, Aracelli. You are appreciated. You are powerful. And I’m glad you’re part of this story.

Reverend Dr. Xenia, reminds us that transformation often begins where comfort ends.

Diagnosed with terminal Pulmonary Fibrosis and Lupus, she could have surrendered to despair. Instead, she chose purpose. She chose to turn pain into power, and wounds into wisdom. Her words stay with me:

“Now is the time for you to be selfish, now is the time for you to say, ‘I need to do something different because I want something different.’ That starts with looking within, that starts with looking in the mirror.”

So many of us are taught to numb, to perform, to power through especially when we’re hurting. But what if healing begins with the courage to stop… and look within?

What if choosing yourself isn’t selfish, but sacred?

Dr. Xenia said something that hit me hard:
“I’m not working to die anymore. I’m working to live.”

Let that sink in.

Whether you’re battling illness, grief, burnout, or just feeling lost
👉 know this: your pain is not the end of your story. It might just be the spark of a new chapter. One where you live, not just survive.

This Thursday, take a moment to ask yourself:
Am I working to live or just working to cope?

You deserve more than survival.
You deserve healing, wholeness, life.
