POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Every child deserves to grow up feeling like they belong. That is the simple premise of why @diversityrm exists.

All the evidence shows us that bullying in schools continues to hurt children and young people - it can ruin their experience of being at school and in plenty of cases the impact of bullying can last a lifetime and at its worst shortens a life.

@diversityrm was set up following the death of a child by suicide who had been bullied because people *thought* he was gay. These stories are too common; as adults we have a duty to do all we can to change that. Sadly as intolerance and hate becomes ever more present in public discourse the urgency and importance of this work does not wane.

Since DRM launched 15 years ago, volunteer role models who are lesbian, gay, bi, trans+ and queer have used the power of story telling to help build empathy, compassion and understanding as a path to ending bullying.

Diversity Role Models joined the @stonewalluk family over the summer and it was a delight to hold our first community fundraiser on Wednesday.

@justmaydoes had the room hooting with laughter with fun evening of Drag Bingo @bettyandjoans. Thank you to everyone who came along to support DRMs work.

If you haven’t been to @bettyandjoans please do support them. A queer owned gem of a venue in Elephant and Castle.

Check out @jonathanphangphotography’s brilliant pics.

📚✨ Meet 10-year-old Joylen!

A sneak peek of @joylenthewinger reading his powerful story about racism, featured in Our Stories, Our World Volume 1 — a collection of 20 illustrated short stories and poems written by children from primary schools across the UK, led by 8-year-old author and @guinnessworldrecords title holder @jaycesworld18

Did you know that Racism can have a lasting impact on children and young people, affecting their confidence, sense of belonging and wellbeing?

Giving children a safe space to share their experiences and perspectives through writing helps create conversations that can challenge prejudice and promote understanding, equality and inclusion. ❤️

A huge congratulations to Joylen, who is now a published author! 🎉📖 He is also a talented fashion designer, creating Afrocentric clothing using recycled waste — combining creativity, culture and sustainability. 🌍♻️

We’re incredibly proud of you, Joylen! 👏🏾
Joylen is now a published author. You could be next! ✍🏾📚

‘Strong people stand up for themselves and the strongest stand up for others’. Children often say it best and Melissa is 💯 on the money with her words.

Keep an eye out for @diversityrm’s anti bullying campaign across the country this month. I am so pleased DRM is part of the @stonewalluk family and we can work together to maximise our collective impact. In tight times for charities we have to find ways to work more effectively. Anti-bullying has always been a passion. I was part of the team at the National Children Bureau that set up Anti Bullying week over two decades ago and Chair of DRM a decade ago so it feels like a wonderful full circle moment.

13 October 2019.

My first half marathon. Apparently once you’ve run a 10K, the logical next step is 21.1km. 👀
This was also my first charity race, raising money for @diversityrm

It was wet. It was muddy. I wore completely the wrong shoes (rookie mistake 😂).But somehow, none of that really mattered…crossing the finish line knowing every mile had helped support young people to be themselves without fear of being bullied made the day feel bigger than the race itself.

It also helped that my bros were waiting at the finish line.

The National Education Diversity Awards welcomes the 2026 Statement of Action and Commitments, released at the start of this year by 14 national education organisations.

Coordinated by NAHT, the statement sets out shared priorities across diversity, equity and inclusion, workforce sustainability and leadership and system culture.

Recruitment, retention and workload are not peripheral issues.
They shape organisational culture.
They shape leadership sustainability.
They shape student outcomes.

Public commitments matter.

Wow, I’m absolutely flattered to be named in @attitudemag’s annual Attitude 101 list, empowered by Bentley. Featuring 101 trailblazers from a variety of industries, it’s an absolute honour to be included 🥺

To whoever nominated me, thank you 🧡🧡🧡

A very Happy UK LGBT+ History Month 2026!

This year we're celebrating 'Science and Innovation' and highlighting the lives of five inspirational LGBT+ people in those fields:

- Barbara Burford, a medical researcher who established NHS equality and diversity guidelines.

- Charles Beyer, a locomotive engineer and a founding member of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers.

- Elke Mackenzie, a lichenologist who researched lichens in Antarctica.

- Jemma Redmond, a biotechnologist who developed 3D bioprinters to create tissues and organs.

- Robert Boyle, a founder of modern chemistry and of the modern scientific method.

Find out more about them on our website www.schoolsoutuk.org and by following our Instagram

Over the past 50+ years Schools OUT have worked to #educateOUTprejudice and #usualise LGBT+ lives, creating learning environments where all LGBT+ people feel safe, seen, and supported. This is why, following the repeal of Section 28, we founded UK LGBT+ History Month to be a dedicated space to celebrate our rich and diverse history, herstory, theirstory.
