Amazing trip to Wadi Rum with 3 hour “jeep” ride with our Bedouin guide, sunset and traditional camp dinner. A lot of movies filmed here and it was easy to see why. #lawrenceofarabia #themartian #dune #starwars #johnwick4 #wadirum #bucketlistadventures #worldtravels #tnktravels #framilyvacation #unescoworldheritage

Last full day in Tokyo was spent exploring Harajuku & Shibuya. Did the Shibuya Sky experience and got to see the city at night. Great city, I would recommend it to anyone. So much to see and do.

Second full day in Tokyo which started with @hildakozan & @divertiff trying out an earthquake simulator. The rest of the day was filled with temples, markets, food, drinks, wood block prints, more food, more drinks, and topped off with Karaoke in Shinjuku.

Got up early to see the sunrise on Mt Fuji. Caught a bus and train to Tokyo which is insane and crazy and so interesting! Great last stop for Japan.

Spent most of the day getting from Nagoya to Mt Fuji. Our first sighting of Fuji was disappointing as it was covered in clouds. When we got to our destination it had all cleared off and it is stunning and awe inspiring. Had an 8 course dinner at our Ryokan followed by a dip in our hot spring fed pool. Another great day!

Went out to see Nagoya today. First stop was Atsuta-jingu Shrine. One of the most sacred sites in Japan. I will say this is not a tourist shrine and I would recommend skipping it to fellow travelers. Next stop was Nagoya Castle, and although it was closed due to recent earthquakes, the palace was open and it was incredible, highly recommend this stop. After a long day on our feet we found a foot massage place and had some local Nagoya food along with my first “highball” here which was actually quite refreshing.

Visted Takayama Jinya today. Although not technically a castle, Jinya were fortified government offices, usually built for smaller domains that could not support a castle, or where the local lord was not wealthy, or ranked high enough to be master of a castle. Even so, many castle specialists still count Jinya as samurai castles. Takayama Jinya is Japan’s last remaining original, and nearly complete Jinya.

Twenty five generations of Tokugawa samurai were dispatched to Hida to work as administrators, tax officers and to police the area from the Takayama Jinya until the end of the Edo period. After the fall of feudalism and the Meiji Restoration, the Jinya was registered as a National Historical Monument in 1929, and continued to be used as public and prefectural offices until 1969.

Inside the Jinya, 150 metal rabbit motifs cover the timber frame joints. These too have special meanings. Rabbit have many children, which is a symbol of prosperity. Rabbits are supposed to protect against fire. Thirdly, the rabbit’s big ears symbolize the government listening to the needs of the people.

Historical displays including antiquities, documents and maps are on show within the complex, providing the visitor with an idea of the daily life and duties of the samurai stationed at the last samurai Jinya.

Of course we then got in a couple more temples and shrines as well as a museum before heading back to the train station for our ride to Nagoya. Unfortunately for us, we got delayed about 3 hours about halfway into the trip, as it seems the typhoon finally caught up with us. Needless to say, we went a little stir crazy! Still, a great day 😁
