❕ NEXT WEEK:

THISTLE SIFTER (@thistlesiftermusic):

Thistle Sifter is the cinematic post-rock project of English musician Pete Barnes (Utrecht, NL). Catapulted into disarray following a serious cycling accident in November 2020, Thistle Sifter became a platform for Barnes to express his personal struggles and emotions, transporting listeners into an ethereal world of serene post-rock, spacey synth ambience, evolving soundscapes & lo-fi folk.

Forever The Optimist is Barnes’ latest and most ambitious work to date, offering a more eclectic and symphonic sound to his ever-expanding body of work. Where previous albums A Spectral Moon (2022) and Circles (2024) strongly focused on personal struggles with health, acceptance and letting go of the past. Forever The Optimist deals with existential issues caused by man’s neglect of our natural environment and fellow humans in the pursuit of neverending growth. Come and experience the new work by Thistle Sifter at Simplon UP!

KAYLEIGH BEARD (@kayleigh.beard.music):

Kayleigh Beard is a producer and one-woman-band from Groningen who creates alternative electronic pop with dreamy basslines and powerful beats. Her music is both introspective and energetic, as well as atmospheric and danceable, carried by spacious vocals and rich synth layers. After the release of her debut album in 2020, she was selected for the Popronde. With support from Sena, her new album is now in the works: Mutations. This album explores the cycle of change and the journey from vulnerability to strength. The album is infused with nature metaphors and feminine energy - a discovery of the wild woman within, connected to the earth. Mutations is expected in early April.

Alongside the acts, DJ Ad-Dy (@dj_diskonoir) will be hitting the decks at the Simplon Café during the evening.

Geweldige avond met o.a. Terzij. Ik hoorde crust, Godspeed en His Hero Is Gone in vlagen en dat is een compliment. Met fijne kopjes in ’t publiek. En een prettige en nodige boodschap.

❕THIS THURSDAY:

RATCHET (@ratchet.official):

Dark and mysterious yet rooted in a bold and outspoken heart, that’s what the alternative indie artist “Ratchet” (Karel Laureijs) from Leiden brings to the table with his music. What started as a way to impress a girl at school has grown into something far greater than a solo project. Joined by Tom Koenraad (drummer), Midas Rotteveel (guitarist), and Floris Kolder (bassist), they are now making a solid name for themselves in the underground alternative music scene, and they have no plans to stop anytime soon.

Ratchet’s music is best described as a late-night walk through a lit-up city. Each song carries its own unique aesthetic, often telling a story about Ratchet’s personal struggles. He aims to keep an air of mystery, while still being accessible enough for anyone to enjoy. Although most of his tracks vary in style or genre, they all exist within the same crafted world of Ratchet.

BLISS (@call.us.bliss):

Bliss is an indierock band from the northern part of the Netherlands. With melodic pop songs with a lot of rock attitude, they draw people from behind the bar onto the dance floor. Within the band, several musical influences are brought together into an act with a clear identity. Big inspirations are bands like Inhaler and Nirvana.

Bliss has now performed their music throughout the Netherlands, including venues like Vera Groningen, Muziekgieterij Maastricht, Atlas Theater Emmen, Bevrijdingsfestival, and in 2024 they did the aftershow for Racoon in AFAS Live. The second single “Sweet Soda Drinks” was released on September 27, 2024, and the schedule for 2025 is already filling up. They will perform at Eurosonic and their debut EP will be released in the Spring.

Alongisde the acts, @dj_diskonoir will spin some tunes in the Simplon Café during the evening.

We are already in the spooky month of October and can say that this is going to be a busy rest of the year. We are taken back by the sheer variety of musical journeys and influences.
Not only that but we had shows saying goodbye and hello, guests from across the globe and close by and everything in between, meeting new friends and seeing familiar faces.

Look back on our YouTube channel with the first week and part of the second week of October added to our Playlist!

Thank you to everyone involved, we had a blast, and we hope you too!
