Every time I stumble across a Keoki 12-inch..it INSTANTLY takes me back to my very short-lived techno DJ days in the late ‘90s/early 2000s. Back then I had a handful of go-to guys..Digweed, Sasha, Oakenfold..and Keoki was right there in the mix. I even THINK I met him at a rave once..but let’s just say..those memories are a little..hazy. 😂😂 This one was especially cool to spin again because it dropped right in that same window when I was active..so it feels like a straight time capsule. Keoki came up in the NYC club scene in the early ‘90s..gaining a rep as “Superstar DJ Keoki,” and this track caught him right in the middle of his rise. Pass It On came off his 2001 album Jealousy and the 12-inch has a bunch of mixes..each one stretching the groove in a different way..which is EXACTLY what made these singles such a DJ’s secret weapon. What I love is how it captures both Keoki’s edge and the era’s energy..dark, pulsing..but still fun as hellllll. It was a time when electronic music was breaking out into bigger spaces while still feeling underground. That tension is baked right into this track. Would love to get my hands on a full LP of his someday..but for now these 12-inches are keeping that part of my collection alive. And for me..it’s more than just the music..it’s like flipping the switch back to those nights behind the decks when this stuff was just EVERYTHING. #Keoki #PassItOn #Techno #Vinyl #vinylcollectionpost #DJKeoki

“Party Monster” Original Motion Picture soundtrack 4 track EP l Day 2 of the #jobsvinylchallenge Host @zedosdiscos Topic: The Body This is my selection for “The Body” The movie “Party Movie” based on the life of Club Kid, Michael Alig really showcases how far drug addiction can take you. I mean, how Fkd do you have to be to kill someone with a hammer, pour bleach into someone’s mouth and duct tape it shut, and finally dismembering them to pieces. Day 8 of the #jobsvinylchallenge Hosted by @zedosdiscos Topic (Job) today ✨Veterinarian ✨ My pick is not the most obvious choice but I’m going with DJ Keoki “Ego Trip” Super popular DJ in the 1990s that rose quickly to fame in the nightclub world. Also popular at the time and in the same circles (as seen in the movie Party Monster) was the animal tranquilizer Ketamine aka “Special K” Animal hospitals and Vets were being robbed of their ketamine supply and found its way up many peoples noses. 🐶💉 Is Special K still a thing? This fantastic record filled with breakbeats, techno/house, etc is a great listen if you enjoy music like the Crystal Method/Chemical brothers. #vinyl #vinylcollection #vinylcommunity #vinyloftheday #recordoftheday#vinylrecords#vinylporn#keoki #djkeoki #djsuperstarkeoki #limelight#tunnel#clubkids#partymonster#cratedigger#cratedigging#recordcommunity #recordcollection #recordaddict#addictedtorecords#recordalbums#techno#breakbeat#housemusic Majick 🎶 People listen up Believe what I say Majick's a drug that can show you the way All the majick is psychic🎶
