🎉HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JASON🎈

For years, if you’ve rolled through the Met after dark, chances are Jason @sinbadsigns69 was there holding down the fort. Nighttime concierge, longtime Metropolite, music supporter, and all-around keeper of the clubhouse vibes 🖤

Jason’s got Texas #rocknroll in his bones with history behind the doors and backstages of some of this city’s legendary venues. And TONIGHT we’re turning the volume up with #poolside #livemusic featuring a few of his band faves 🎸 Here's the lineup:

7pm- Cheeks
8pm- Jim Ortiz & the Ballroom Destroyers
9pm- Thunderosa Atx

🍖 PLUS BBQ Bill will also be onsite smoking up some deliciousness 😋 So, let's crank the tunes, cheers a beer, and celebrate #clubmetatx style 🤘

Dear @bigmicpereida
Its Duff. Just wanted to show you some flicks from the awesome event you orchestrated with @shade45

Everybody from @djberlin , @nick_x_cruz to @iamspymc showed out.

The urge to take Instagrams suggestion to add you as a collaborator just about choked me while writting this.

I got more pics to show you, so ya know, check em out in between your mom's enchiladas and spitting bars on the eternal stage 🕊

Love you homie.

We packed the @flamingocantina this weekend, but the place felt empty without our guy @bigmicpereida . We learned of his passing and couldn’t believe it. Our hearts were heavy and @CHHK512 showed up and put on a show the way he would’ve wanted us to. He got @dainphamusamadeuz and @shade45 to come down from New York to Austin and the hip hop community showed up!! He would’ve loved this. He worked so hard for everybody to get an opportunity and bring artists together. On the one year anniversary of my first show with the CHHK crew, it was the first time I ever played a gig without him there. I’ll miss his passion, his positivity, his reliability, his big voice and his even bigger heart. Taken too soon, but he made big waves while was here. RIP Big Mic #ledgendsneverdie

🦋 "There's so much talent in Austin. And I feel like if people could for a second be selfless, and not selfish, and come together and use eachother's resources and help eachother --- that Austin could be like Houston was, you know, back in the 90s and early 2000s when it was blowin' up --- because they all pushed eachother," said rapper Michael "Big Mic" Pereida @bigmicpereida, of the Austin based supergroup College of Hip Hop Knowledge (CHHK) @chhk512, in a 2020 interview with @hiphophoorayradio founder @leahjmanners.

🫂 Last week CHHK announced Big Mic's passing on social media, leaving a profound loss in community.

🦋 Big Mic is remembered as a true leader, a local pillar with a golden heart, and a deeply talented artist with endless dedication and drive to uplift his community.

💖 Our tribute episode is filled with Big Mic's favorites and most celebrated music, his close collaborations, and thoughts from his crew, family, and cherished friends.

🌊 We play some of his interviews here on Hip Hop Hooray, and pay our respects to an undeniable force, who represented Austin and Texas Hip-Hop on a national and global scale, with an unwavering grace to his culture.

🎧 This episode, and playlist, will be online at KOOP.org for a couple of weeks. If you would like the episode download, please reach out and let us know, so we can email it to you. The link to hear is in our bio.
