RIP Dad, #DanIngram 1934 - 2018. You changed what it meant to be a Radio Personality and Radio was meant to have you. I miss laughing with you wholeheartedly. Thank you for sending me signs, that you are still with me. Thank you for cheering on my individuality as a teenager and loving the small amount of my music you heard. I miss bumping music of all genres on your surround sound system on the 44th floor of the building we lived in🖤
PS- this was one of my father’s favorite songs because when the word “walking” is sung, he would swear she was singing “fucking”. Haha 🤣 you had to know him to really get his humor.

Michael Harrison, publisher of the radio trade publication Talkers, said in a statement that Ingram was “the greatest Top 40 radio disc jockey of all time - not just being a master of compacted content delivered by an awesome voice w/ a remarkable range, but a genius practitioner of timing. He raised the presentation of pop radio to an art form.”

Ingram reigned as one of the most influential & popular DJs beginning in the early years of the format, when transistor radios first made it possible to carry your music with you on the streets, at school and at the beach. “I literally was in their ears,” Ingram said.

He sensed & fostered an intimate connection to his listeners, & developed an on-air persona that made his fans feel they were part of an inside group.

On WABC, which had a powerhouse signal that reached most of the eastern half of the country at night, Ingram called his listeners “Kemosabe,” Tonto’s affectionate moniker for the Lone Ranger on the radio and TV series of that name. He was the last deejay on WABC on the day it switched from Top 40 music to political talk in 1982.

He proclaimed a Word of the Day (“Solid!” “Humdinger!” “Rococo!”). He jabbed constantly at the tired old format. “Twenty-two before three on the Ingram Travesty,” he announced one afternoon in 1962, “the program designed to belt the Establishment.”

Some days, he dubbed his show the “Ingram Atrocity;” more often, it was the “Ingram Mess,” & always, he found ways to needle the powers that be.

& @META - my dad retired in 2003!

So NASA just got ordered to put a nuclear reactor on the moon by 2030.

Cool. Great. Love the ambition.

You know what else we could use by 2030?

A non-invasive way to diagnose endometriosis.

A condition that affects 190 million women worldwide.

You know how much the NIH spends per patient per year on endometriosis research?

Two dollars.
Two.

I’ve left better tips on a bad cup of coffee.

Meanwhile we have 813 billionaires in this country sitting on $6.1 trillion combined
and we’re debating whether to cut food stamps to make the budget work.

Interesting math.

PCOS. Fibroids. Vulvodynia.
Adenomyosis.

Conditions affecting hundreds of millions of women.

Chronically underfunded. Barely studied.

The speculum used in your gynecologist’s office was designed in 1845.

That means it is 180 years old (!!).

We have not meaningfully redesigned it since.

We have not meaningfully redesigned a tool that is used countless times every single day to open one of the most delicate parts of the human body. A woman’s vagina.

Yet- We went to the moon.

But We did not redesign the speculum.
🤔

So yes. Fund space exploration.

Fund all of it.

But maybe also fund the bodies of the people who produced every single human being who ever looked up and wanted to go there.

Enjoy the moon.

Just know every astronaut who ever got there took their first journey out of a vagina.

Fund women’s health research the same way space travel is prioritized.

It’s time women’s health entered the orbit of actual priority.✨💫🪐🌎✨🌚🌝💫✨
