Happy Autism Acceptance Month ♾ and World Autism Acceptance Day ♾! #worldautismawarenessday

My Cali is the most amazing kid I know. She is beautiful, smart, funny, athletic, cool, and autistic. Autism presents as social and communication difficulties with sensory regulation issues. Depending on where you are on the spectrum will determine how much assistance you may or may not need to live an independent, successful life. There are a lot of misconceptions about Autism and Autistic people. This harmful narrative is preventing children and adults from getting the help they need.

Autism and Neurodiversity is really close to my heart. We should focus more on educating ourselves and acceptance rather than judging and stereotyping people & families on this journey. Being autistic means you have a uniquely beautiful perspective of life, and it should be interpreted as just another extension of “normal”.

This month I encourage anyone that my have questions or negative opinions about autism to reach out. As a parent of an autistic toddler, my goal is to change the narrative and give autistic individuals the inclusivity they deserve. And I wanted to share just a glimpse of this beautiful journey with Cali. 💜

Also, if there are any parents out there that suspect something is atypical or different about their child please don’t “wait and see”. Early diagnosis and intervention can be life changing for any child struggling.
