Sunday evening, four curators, and a room full of records.

The first S.E.V.E. (Sunday Evening Vinyl Experience) is in the books at Wax Vinyl Bar & Ramen Shop. Sara Kay, Sunshine Rewind, and RickyBauBau; funk, boogie, soulful house, jazz, hip hop, and disco, all played on wax.

To everyone who put the phone down, ate, sipped and came out to listen with us: thank you. You are the reason this series exists.

S.E.V.E. returns in October. Follow along for the date, and start thinking about who you want sitting next to you when the needle drops.

Curated by myself for @luxlistenings .

Sunday Evening Vinyl Experience is back; four DJs, one night, no repeats.

This week’s crate spans funk, boogie, soulful house, classic hip hop jazz (African, Brazilian, Japanese, nu), soul (classic, UK, neo), amapiano, afro house, and disco. Every set is a different door into the same room.

Lux Listenings: sips, bites & listens, every time.

📍 @waxvinylbar Ramen Shop, 1549 W Chicago Ave
🗓️ Sunday, 9/27 at 6pm

Behind the decks: @fathomdj , @djsarakay, @hirickyreyes, @sunshinerewind__

Bring a friend who says they “don’t listen to vinyl”; this is the night that changes their mind. See you at Wax.

Meet SARA KAY 🎧 @djsarakay

A balanced cocktail of funky soul grooves with a throwback R&B floater, that’s @djsarakay sound in one sentence.

On her go-to track: “Heart’s Desire” by Don Blackman.

On what she’s tuned into when she’s behind the decks: subtle cues. Head, shoulder, and hip moves to the beat. Pick up on those little signals and you can give the room songs they forgot they loved, and songs they never knew they loved.

What music means to her beyond technical skill: “Music drives the soul. It is the connective tissue between our mind and body. It is the universal language that allows you to feel things you can’t put into words, and put into words things you feel deeply. I love experiencing music with people and feeling that electric energy when a whole room is vibing to a song.”

What she wants you to leave with: release, fulfillment, love, joy, closure, and curiosity. A reminder that music is powerful and healing.

On Chicago: “Chicago is one of the most amazing cities on earth. It is one of the places where you can really be true to yourself as a DJ and get opportunities to play music that means a lot to you, rather than being forced to stay in a narrow box of top 40 or club hits. The outpour of love and joy I get to experience and receive from patrons at my gigs has filled my soul a hundredfold.”

Sunday Eve Vinyl Experience…
Catch her live with @hirickyreyes @sunshinerewind__ @fathomdj
