Thank you to @ogstevetx for keeping the vibes high all night. Thank you to @thefrenchfryhouse for the great food. Thank you to each and every one of you who came out, wanted to come, liked a post in support, played the album, and just showed me love in this chapter of my life. 5 years. Longevity. When making issue 4, it was hard to not think of how hip-hop sounds in all regions. One of the cities that might have been the most impactful to the genre is Houston. The city of Houston and Chopped and Screwed music go hand in hand, getting its start in the '90s from the late DJ Screw, it is amazing to see how the music lives on. Last year, we caught up with @djsircrks about his start in the sub-genre, the strides he made in his career that led to an OVO Sound Radio Appearance, and what it is like to continue making the music of his hometown. Read all about it in issue 4, out now!

This year we celebrated the 50th anniversary of the genre that shaped so much of our lives, it is hard to think about the different scenes of our different hometowns. And it was important for me to honor this with a city I have gained so much love for, Houston, Texas. Houston’s chopped and screwed music has added so much to the musical landscape of the south and beyond. With the last story of Issue 4, I really wanted to talk about the history of the genre and how I found out about it one day as a teen on tumblr following @djsircrks. This story is not only a brief history lesson, it is also a short profile with DJ Sir Crks, his history with music, how he found his own lane in the historic genre and the future of it through his eyes. Read all about it and more in Issue 4 out right now on our website! photos at the @screwed_up_records taken by @jesuisponge photo of DJ Screw courtesy of @sosouthtx
