POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
"We are being unfairly targeted." Our CEO and cofounder, Dr Charisse Beaumont, spoke to BBC London about the findings of REMEL (Race Equality in Music Event Licensing), our research showing that Black music events are cancelled, restricted and shut down at far higher rates than other events. Promoter Ben Ryan, DJ and producer DJ Trebel T, and music executive and academic Dr Hakeem Stevens also shared their experiences of disproportionate licensing restrictions, and why licensing decisions must take on board the views of Black and Asian communities as well as the music industry. Black music drives our live music economy. It is time our licensing system reflected that. Read the Report, Link in bio #REMEL #BlackLivesInMusic #LiveMusic #RaceEquality

I still remember the car journey when we were in our mid-20s when four of us were rolling to get some food and I first met @aleshaofficial Alesha Dixon. She was like a breath of fresh air when she introduced herself and mentioned that she was in a girl band called Misteeq. We debated name choices and musical styles... And her ambition was clear from the start. A couple of months later I started interviewing them for MTV news, It was clear they were unique, capturing the pulse and energy of a London cultural tribe that united R&B, Garage, hip hop energy, and musical melodies that connected with a whole generation. A few years later she showed her ability to take counsel and research her own brand identity, when she was offered a place as a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing.... I still remember the phone call at home where we discussed for an hour, what her thoughts were, and she eventually used that as a stepping stone to the great things we see her achieving now... she has a grafted for her place in showbiz! Over the years their friendship as a group, and as soloists, has remained graceful and elegant. They are all bloody amazing women who have shown their resilience in every chapter of their musical journey. @sabrinawashington and her solo music journey as well as homeware business woman with luxury candles. ...( And our lovely walks in Holland Park). @su_elise building a whole new life as a mother, wife and business woman in Australia.... Check out her swimwear range @aleshaofficial and her TV and music journey whilst juggling family and fabulosity! ... And quietly contributing to so much charity work. Last night I was so proud of how far they've come and a sold-out Wembley arena partied hard! And even though the show was already amazing, @hradsx killed it with her spontaneous stage appearance in slide 8 ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ I got to bed at 4:00 a.m.... ladies.. you smashed it and I love you! โ™ฅ๏ธ ๐ŸŽถ โญ #misteeq #wembleyarena #london #girlband

This year at Notting Hill Carnival, I was REALLY tested! โค๏ธโ€๐Ÿ”ฅ One of my biggest highlights was being surrounded by incredible floats and meeting some amazing ladies! ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ But I also experienced huge disappointment at @rampagesound. I missed @djagonline and @seanibremix perform, and I was devastated when @thisisredtower advised me to leave early because of safety concerns. I almost cried!!! Honestly, it made me feel like I no longer belong at Carnival. ๐Ÿ’” I felt like I belonged in residential care! But I donโ€™t want to give up. I want to contribute. Iโ€™d love to meet with @nhcarnivalldn to discuss how we can make Carnival more inclusive and accessible for disabled people. Iโ€™ve supported Black music and culture for over 25 years, and as a motivational journalist/activist, I want to continue contributing to this incredible celebration of Black culture. Disabled people also deserve to feel that Carnival belongs to us too. โค๏ธ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’› #NottingHillCarnival #NHCarnival #Carnival #Accessibility #DisabilityInclusion #BlackCulture #BlackMusic #Inclusion
