Whenever I develop a new wall I search for the easiest routes first. This is for a variety of reasons. First of all, I have gained a pound a year from the age of 30 to 52 (I partly blame my love of good bourbon 🥃) and I don’t climb as hard as I did when I was in my 20s and 30s. However, the main reason is that more people climb the easier routes and therefore it is a better investment of time, effort, and money knowing that the moderates will be enjoyed by more people. For example, routes like Send Me on my Way, Plate Tectonics, Brown Eyed Girl, and Boltergeist see far more ascents than Magnum Opus, Golden Road, Blue Collar, and Galunlati. I am particularly proud of the route pictured above because it is the easiest so far at the Secret Wall and has already seen plenty of ascents since the FA on June 1st of this year. At 65 ft and 6 bolts, “Hoard of the Flies” goes at 5.8 sport. “Canadian Coddiwomple” next to it is 80 ft and 9 bolts and goes at 5.9 sport. Both of these routes are sure to see plenty of repeats by the masses. #routedevelopment #ontarioclimbing #thenooks #weakfatbaldandold #neverstopexploring

What a blast to see friends experience the Nooks for the first time. Big thanks to @brendanbaars & @djviernes for all the hard work through the years. I’m already dreaming of going back…

The Canadian climbing expedition was a tremendous success. Along with the Michigan crew, we placed over 130 bolts and created 14 new routes and started another, including 3 multi-pitch climbs. It was a lot of hard work in less than ideal conditions at times, but the best part of the process was making new friends with some of the kindest and hardest working climbers I have ever met. Much appreciation to Dan, Cam, DJ, Brendan, Charlie, and Aaron for showing me their amazing crags. #thenooks #routedevelopment #crownlands

Competing alongside some of the industry’s longest-standing agencies as a core team of six and taking home Gold at the ANA REGGIE Awards feels pretty surreal.

A small reminder that big ideas don’t depend on big teams.

Huge gratitude to everyone who helped shape this work and @wahlpro for trusting us to bring it to life. 💛 @alliebussa

My first full length album “Little Games” was released 10 years ago today. I played hundreds of shows and released tons of singles & EPs before this project, but Little Games was the first time I ever got to put a full body of work together and my first time recording a project in Nashville. I recorded this album right after I moved to Nashville. I’m so grateful to the people who worked on this project, said yes to working with the new girl, and took the time to help me make something I can still say I’m so proud of 10 years later. Man, I’m so grateful to have had so many opportunities to collaborate & create with so many incredible & talented people. This album brought so many wild & wonderful experiences, tours, relationships, shows, songs and people into my life. I met my first Nashville friend, @nathanastone —who would become my best friend and musical collaborator on so many future projects, in the studio making this album. 🥹 I toured the country almost 10 months out of the year in my Chevy HHR hatchback that year. I remember having to send @andysheridanmusic notes from random coffee & truck stops on the road wherever I could find internet. Slept in my car, played theaters & bars & huge festivals opening for mega stars one day & a back corner in a brewery the next day. I emailed every radio station in every city I played to see if they’d play my song or let me on air. I look back and I have no idea how I even survived all of that lol. There’s not enough words or moments to fit in a 20 cap Instagram post to capture how all of this makes me feel. But I can tell you that I’m proud. I’m so proud of this girl for doing it & trusting herself and really going for it. Because I wouldn’t be where I am today without everything she sacrificed and did to make it happen. I am so ridiculously grateful to be sitting here 10 years later, after a lot of music, shows, life, let downs, lessons, beauty, disappointments & love, able to know that I’m still here creating & making music for the same reason I started in the first place, to connect with people & try to feel something real in this world, & to have fun. Thanks for still listening after all this time, guys. <3 xo

We had amazing conditions at the Red this weekend. I bolted a new route on Saturday at Cave Fork while Karla and Lucy climbed 3 of the other new routes. Next we did several pitches at Muir Valley and then met Dan, Cam, and DJ for dinner at Redpoint. Sunday we all climbed at the Chocolate Factory and had dinner at Miguel’s before the 5 hour drive home. Next bolting trip will be in Canada! 🇨🇦 #routedevelopment #rrgcc #muirvalley #cavefork #bedrockrrg

Blind Date With Destiny // V12

Putting 👀 on some classics that have gone unrepeated through the years in this new series of short shorts!

Bring on the power! Sequence through the improbably delicate sidepull slopers to tackle a compression beast. Requiring full tension and a precise blind heel hook for the first crux move. Keep it together through the double bump and tackle the second crux! The hand flip on the sharp arete. Meet your maker with few hold or foot choices on the vertical face except the arete. Overbalance and your out and don’t call it done until you are standing on the top.

This line has gotten looked over for years despite it being close to every other classic. Maybe it’s the height, maybe it’s because it hardly looks like a rock climb without chalk. But whatever it is, even the stand start (proposed v10 probably soft) hasn’t seen a second ascent either.

Michigan native @brendanbaars (also known as @raviolitriceps on the KB) has spent the last few years of his life dedicated to building up climbing in the Nooks. Between locating, cleaning and FAing he’s done everything to develop one of the last lesser-traveled crags North America has to offer!

Follow along through his process from training to sending in his film 🔥 we were psyched to be a part of such a cool thing!

Putting 👀 on some classics that have gone unrepeated through the years in this new series of short shorts!

First on that list is MAD HATTER! A powerful overhanging highball on perfect stone and just enough holds. A gem of a line that’s more intimidating in person due to the almost perfect landing that drops away. Making the high sloper lip incredibly daunting.

As far as I’m aware, this line has sat unrepeated although I think it’s gotten some eyeballs and interest over the years. It was a spur of the moment ascent. Cleaned and climbed in a day before I had time to think about consequences.
