Today’s spin is D.K. Harrell - Talkin’ Heavy (2023)

Talkin’ Heavy is the 2nd studio album by D.K. Harrell. This is the limited “Blue Clear” edition from @alligatorrecs.

This is a very generous gift from my good buddy, @whatsspinning2021. Check out Bill’s page & give it a FOLLOW. He has a killer record collection. He’s always posting new stuff I’ve never seen before.

Bill recently saw @dkblues_ when he opened for @thebuddyguy in New Orleans. When he sent me this record, he commented that he thought D.K. Harrell was like a young @bbkingofficial. And after a few spins, I can totally see the connection. He reminds me a lot of B.B. King, too.

Back in the day, I used to frequent a little hole in the wall blues club right outside of Tallahassee, FL, called the Bradfordville Blues Club. It was a legendary club that used to house the best blues musicians touring the south. Even B.B. King was once rumored to had played there.

When I put on this @dkblues_ record, it brings me right back to the Bradfordville Blues Club. The place had a vibe very similar to this album. It’s very chill. It’s relaxing. It’s like home.

Sadly, the BBC didn’t make it through Covid. Along with the pandemic, a tree fell on the club, and the owners couldn’t afford to repair it. It was a true landmark of great live music for a long time though. I miss the place.

Thank you again, Bill! I have a feeling this one’s going to be getting a lot of future love.
