D.K. Lyons had NO IDEA why Philly was asking him for random words… until Philly revealed what he'd done with them. 😂

During his return to The Common Ground Podcast, John “Philly” Fletcher asked independent recording artist D.K. Lyons to give him a series of words—but didn't tell D.K. what they were going to be used for.

The surprise?

Philly took D.K.'s own words and used them to rewrite Tom Petty's “Free Fallin’.”

Then he read his creation back to D.K. and waited for the professional musician's verdict.

D.K.'s reaction was priceless:

“It literally sounds like if Tom Petty wrote that song when he was like 10 years old.” 😂

Between the car, Frisbee, baseball and D.K.'s image of a kid proudly skipping because he's too young to understand heartbreak, the critique might actually be better than the song.

It was the perfect surprise for a returning guest—and a hilarious way to close out D.K.'s appearance for The Common Ground Podcast's one-year anniversary.

🎵 YOUR TURN: Give Philly three random words in the comments. What song should he attempt to rewrite next?

Featuring John “Philly” Fletcher, Sydney Nicole and D.K. Lyons — Independent Recording Artist.

Do you actually love the person—or do you love what they provide that was missing from your last relationship?

In this vulnerable clip from The Common Ground Podcast, John “Philly” Fletcher shares a question someone once asked him that forced him to examine a relationship in an entirely different way:

Was he in love with the person—or with finally feeling heard, validated, and understood?

When you've spent years missing communication, affection, validation, or emotional support, finding someone who provides those things can feel incredibly powerful. But does having your unmet needs fulfilled automatically mean you're in love?

Philly explains why the answer wasn't simple—and why he had to wrestle with the difference between loving someone for who they are and loving what they do for you.

It’s a difficult question, but it may be one worth asking in any relationship.

💬 Ask yourself: If everything this person does for you disappeared tomorrow, would you still love who they are?

Subscribe to The Common Ground Podcast for honest conversations about love, relationships, personal growth, faith, and the questions that don't always have easy answers.

More than attraction or shared interests, it was an instant chemistry built on laughter, comfort, and authentic connection. It's a reminder that the strongest relationships are often built on the simplest moments.

What if love isn’t meant to complete you... but to reveal the healthiest version of you?

In this powerful conversation from The Common Ground Podcast, Sydney Nicole explores why so many people believe love doesn’t exist when the real obstacle is often fear, self-protection, or wounds from the past.

Building on D.K. Lyons’ music, Sydney explains how healing changes the way we experience relationships. Instead of chasing love or trying to control the timing, the healthiest approach is to become the kind of person who is ready to give and receive healthy love.

Sometimes the answer isn’t “No.” It’s simply “Not yet.”
