Random MLB Spotlight #1042: Daryl Boston

Kicking off this week of former White Sox players is someone who was synonymous as both a player and a coach with the Chicago team, even if his surname says otherwise. Daryl Boston was drafted 7th overall by the club in 1981 and spent almost seven seasons in their outfield mix, as well as a whole decade as their first first coach from 2013 to 2023. He also had stints with the Mets, the inaugural Rockies team, and the Yankees, though he ironically never played for the Red Sox and was actually born in Cincinnati.

Played for CHW (1984-90), NYM (1990-92), COL (1993), NYY (1994)

Games Played: 1,058
Hits: 655
Home Runs: 83
Runs Batted In: 278
Stolen Bases: 98
AVG/OBP/SLG: .249/.312/.410
bWAR: 4.3

The Players Alliance is saddened by the passing of Butch Huskey and joins the baseball community in honoring his life and legacy.

A seven-year MLB veteran best known for his time with the New York Mets and one of the last to wear 42, Butch gave back long after his playing days ended, generously volunteering his time as a valued member of The Players Alliance family to mentor the next generation of players.

He believed in showing up for young players and investing in who they could become, both on and off the field.

Our hearts are with his family, friends, and everyone whose life he touched. 🤍🕊️

Some lead as fathers. Some lead as mentors. Some lead simply by showing up for the mission day after day. Thank you for the time, the heart, and the example you set. Happy Father's Day 🖤
