The Dalai Lama Fellowship (@dlfellows) is a global leadership program for young changemakers working at the intersection of contemplation, compassion, and social impact led by the Crown Institute and UVA’s Contemplative Sciences Center (@uvacsc) , in partnership with CU Boulder’s Leeds School of Business (@leedsbiz).

Last month, Fellows from around the world gathered in Dharamshala, India for a week of learning, reflection, and community at the Contemplative Leadership Assembly, an immersive gathering that serves as the cornerstone of the year-long Fellowship.

“Community” was the word that came up again and again when Fellows were asked to describe the experience.
Many shared that leading social change work can feel both meaningful and deeply isolating.

Fellows are often navigating enormous challenges with limited resources while carrying the pressure of leading teams, organizations, and movements working toward a better world.

The Fellowship offers something increasingly rare: space to refuel alongside people who understand those pressures firsthand.

A place where Fellows can fully show up as themselves, be supported in community, and reconnect with the deeper purpose behind their work.

That spirit lives throughout the Fellowship, but it especially comes alive during the global assembly.

A rare and extraordinary moment.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama offered a live teaching to the Dalai Lama Fellows during their time together in Dharamshala — an incredible honor for the Fellows.

What makes the @dlfellows community so special is its commitment to cultivating a different kind of leadership: one rooted in self-awareness, resilience, compassion, and deep care for humanity.

Ten Fellows — all undergraduates at @cuboulder's @crowninstitutecu and @leedsbiz — joined 40 other social changemakers from all over the world and across many disciplines, bringing a remarkable diversity of perspectives into shared dialogue and practice over five days.

And in this special moment: the warmth, humor, wisdom, and humanity exchanged between His Holiness and this next generation of global leaders was unforgettable for all present.

As a graduating Dalai Lama Fellow, @pooja_22_singh , Founder and now Director at Hausla Circle, had the opportunity to meet His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama.

He says, “Compassion is the only way to bring peace in the world, and there is no other way.” This is also what makes us human - the ability to expand compassion.

To reflect on what compassion truly means, Pooja draws from the words of Geshe Lobsang Tenzin Negi in his book Engaged Compassion:
“Compassion is not kindness or niceness, usually amounting to keeping peace, avoiding conflict, or making sure we are liked by people. It is active. It is about seeing suffering, staying present with it, and doing what actually helps — even when that means having tough conversations, setting boundaries, or standing up for what is just and right. Compassion isn’t about making people comfortable all the time; it’s about truly being there for them in a way that matters.”

She shares deep gratitude to Geshe-la for introducing these practices and bringing them into her life. Gratitude also to the Dalai Lama Fellows program for shaping this journey in leadership, and to the University of Colorado team for making it possible.

This moment of interaction is one that will continue to create ripple effects in her work — and in the larger journey of making mental well-being accessible for children and teachers.

HumanQind and @wuf_unhabitat complete a full cycle.
We won the Global Honor to accelerate the SDGs with '250 Meters of Happiness' at WUF in 2020 in Abu Dhabi. This year, 250 Meters of Happiness is back at WUF 13 in Baku, Azerbaijan (May 17-22) with the Local Learning Studio and SDGs in Action Gallery.

A big shout out to @annarubbo1 @nataliemossin @A/Prof HY William Chan @hywilliamchan and @locallearningstudio team for their deep commitment to SDGs, hashtag#localisation and hashtag#builtenvironment change makers, educators and leaders.

250 Meters of Happiness, INDIA's FIRST SCHOOL ZONE DESIGNED FOR INDIA's YOUNG is heading to UN HABITAT World Urban Forum. The project is being celebrated for its innovative model for high impact and its systemic approach to governance and service delivery. Transforming lives, neighborhoods and positively impacting 10000 students across 4 schools daily. The project is also the pilot of @transportfordelhi SAFE SCHOOL ZONE INITIATIVE.
