Last week we hosted our first event in New York City that focused on the consumer trends driving interest in mindful drinking approaches. 🍷🔬

Here are a few things we learned from women at the event:

1️⃣ It’s time to throw out the light, moderate and heavy drinker labels. Our drink count matters (a lot) when it comes to how alcohol impacts our health, but when it comes to approaching a new drinking goal, we’re all in this together. There should be no otherness, “odd one out” or line in the sand. We’re all mindful drinkers. The best thing we can do for ourselves and the woman sitting next to us is tell her what worked for us and see if she’s figured out a new hack that we haven’t.

2️⃣ Mindful drinking approaches for dating need to work for women in every age group. We hear more about younger generations dating, but every generation is dating, and women in their 30s, 40s and 50s grew up drinking more alcohol than women in their 20s. Gen Z are leading us in the right direction when it comes to minimizing the role alcohol plays in modern dating culture, but women in other generations have a tougher time getting their partners to change their habits.

3️⃣ We don’t always want the carbon copy of our favorite alcoholic drink without alcohol. There’s a time and a place for strong non-alcoholic versions of our favorite alcoholic drinks. Whether we want to reduce our drink count by two or 10, these alternatives are crucial when it comes to meeting our mindful drinking goals since they can activate the same reward centers in our brain as their alcoholic copies.

If there’s one thing that the rise in NA drinks has taught us, it’s that there’s other ingredients that can mirror the same sensations we seek out from alcohol, without the harmful effects on our health. When we take away the buzz we get from alcohol, we’re more aware of other ingredients in our drinks and how they make us feel. We want to feel good in the near-term, without the come down.
