Tanggol Migrante Movement confronts Philippine Consular Officials Leilani Feliciano, Ruel Gunabe, and Francis Villamin after they intentionally arrive late to Kuya Desmon's hearing in order to circumvent his desire for them to be barred from entry. Consular officials disrupted the hearing, spent the time complaining about the length of the hearing, while one of them even fell asleep. The Philippine Consulate was not welcome here! Consular officials evaded questions regarding their lack of support for detained Filipinos and ignored the people as public officials. Kuya Nestor remains detained at the NWDC despite being granted release on October 7. Tatay Loreto still has an ankle monitor and cannot receive an MRI. Several detained migrants like Kuya Rob and Ate A have been denied assistance to nationals or ignored while experiencing severe medical violence at the NWDC. The Philippine Consulate in Seattle continues to offer no answers to Filipinos in distress and shows its primary interest in holding business and trade meetings, attending fancy events, and not serving the Filipino people. We demand genuine services and meaningful support for detained Filipinos. We demand advocacy for Tatay Loreto to have his ankle monitor removed, and for Kuya Nestor and Desmon, who has yet to receive an outcome from his hearing yesterday, to be immediately released from unjust detention. Tanggol Migrante will continue to fight until our people receive freedom and justice.

At 2pm today, a coalition of community organizations and labor unions showed up in front of the Northwest Detention Center to demand the release of migrant workers and union members recently detained by ICE. SEIU6 members came out strong in support of two janitors who were detained on October 3rd. One member is a single mother who sought asylum to escape extortion threats on her business in Peru. The other janitor cleaned the Westfield Southcenter Mall and had resided in the US for two decades. He was kidnapped and sent to a detention center in Texas. The other workers highlight in the program are Kuya Desmon, Jose, Juan, and Lizandro. Today’s action in support of our members and migrant workers was coordinated by @tanggolmigrantewa , @capybaracolectiva, @frsotacoma, @puso.tacoma, @malayatacoma, @imapnw, @dma_washington, @mlklabor, Teamsters, Pastor @abook06, @waaflcio, @seiu775, and SEIU6, continues to shed light on the cruel and dehumanizing violence enacted by ICE on our communities. Kuya Nestor, a Filipino migrant, won the cancellation of his removal case at the hands of ICE. Despite this, he still has not been released. When his family called on the Philippines Consulate to support him, the consulate threatened to call security on Nestor's partner and 2 children. We demand that the consulate do its job and intervene to free Nestor. We demand freedom for all those unjustly detained by ICE. We, the mass movement, refuse to stay silent as long as the consulate continues to turn its back on its most vulnerable. 🙋🏻‍♀️HOW TO PARTICIPATE: 1️⃣Ensure our demands are spread far and wide by snapping a selfie of yourself and your org, holding signs and banners that demand to FREE KUYA NESTOR, FREE THEM ALL! PHILIPPINE CONSULATE, INTERVENE NOW! 2️⃣Post to your organizations facebook/instagram page, or your personal page and tag or invite @tanggolmigrantewa and @dma_washington to collaborate. Add a slide or description of why you believe it is important for Nestor & all migrants in detention to be released. Invite your community to participate in the selfie campaign, too! 3️⃣TAG or SHARE to gov’t officials who have expressed support for migrants in detention: Maria Cantwell, Pramila Jayapal, Patty Murray, Emily Randall (and more) to uplift the demands of their constituents and call on ICE to WAIVE the appeal and ensure Nestor’s immediate release. ⁉️WHY IS THIS NECESSARY? ✅ Kuya Nestor WON his cancellation of removal case last Wednesday and still hasn’t been released. When the family went to the consulate to ask for support, the consulate threatened to call security on Nestor’s partner and two children. ✅Tatay Loreto still has an ankle monitor and has not been able to receive treatment for cancer. ✅Kuya Desmon awaits trial on the 14th, and the consulate has only visited him once, providing no assistance or care.

Beacon Hill family - Ana, Alexis, and their two children, are facing an unimaginably painful and destabilizing moment. Alexis was taken by ICE, sent to the Northwest Detention Center, and then quickly transferred to the Mississippi Detention Center. This is a common tactic to separate those who are taken from their communities of support. Together, Beacon Hill can show up for Ana, Alexis, and their children with real care and practical support.
