HUGE thanks to everyone who’s shared our HISTORY SMASHERS series with readers! It really does take a village - this is our 12th book and the first to hit a national bestseller list. Super grateful to the team at @randomhousekids and illustrators @falynnk & @dmeconis who make these books way cooler than I ever could on my own! #authorsofinstagram #history #bestseller #kidlit

The cover reveal is behind us, which means Seacritters! The Hunt for the Jigamaree finally gets a place on the grid!

The graphic novel I’ve been drawing for the past five years (first in a trilogy) is finally coming to print March 2027! It features delightful writing by @katemilfordnagspeake, amazing interior colors by @nyaatalie and @charmgardens, lettering assistance by @dc_hopkins and @dmeconis, and editorial acumen from @skeetervm at @candlewickpress.

Our story follows idealistic young badger Monty Mellivore as he tries to find his place at sea among a motley crew of capybaras, a pyromaniac echidna, and two hapless stoats (to name just a few), while hunting for a mythical sea monster.

Pre-orders are opening up around the web, or you can request the book from your local comic shop, bookstore, or library with the ISBN: 9781536220681

If you use StoryGraph or Goodreads, you can also add it to your To Be Read shelf!

AAAAAA IT’S HAPPENING.

#seacritters #middlegradebooks #graphicnovel #badger #capybara The cover of Seacritters! The Hunt for the Jigamaree by Kate Milford and Lucy Bellwood. The bright blue and gold illustration shows Monty Mellivore, a hopeful-looking young badger, runs across the top of the cover toting a sailor’s ditty bag. Below the flashy gold title, Lettice the capybara swings into view holding her rig knife. Their ship, the Rodentia, a topsail schooner, sails through a nest of flailing tentacles in the background.

The most honest book release post you’ll ever read...

The official book-birthday cheer: HISTORY SMASHERS: THE SPACE RACE is out today! Yay!!! Happy book birthday to our whole team at Random House, to illustrators @dmeconis (cover art) and @falynnk (interior art) and to all the scientists and astronauts whose stories are told in these pages!

The truth: You’re reading about this at dinnertime and looking at a photo of me in the clothes I worked out in this morning because I haven’t showered yet, due to deadlines for page proofs on History Smashers #13 and the draft for History Smashers #14. I also haven’t done laundry or packed for the work trip I leave for at 5am. Also, I think the leftover taco bake in the fridge is probably too old to eat for dinner. Eggs and toast, anyone?

As authors, we love sharing photos of book launch parties and release-day school visits with cheering kids, but honestly? Most book release days looks like this. Most books don’t enter the world with national tours, and the reality of publishing is that if it’s going well (and I’m grateful that this series is!) the next book probably needs your attention right now.

Don’t worry - I just turned in those page proofs and have some fun planned for later this week. But I also like to keep things real around here. Anyway, I hope you’ll pick up a copy of HISTORY SMASHERS: THE SPACE RACE for your favorite history buff or your kiddo who was fascinated by the Artemis II launch this spring. And writer friends - I hope this week finds you doing the work you love! #authorsofinstagram #space #historysmashers

Myths! Lies! Failed satellite launches? 🚀 Head to the launch pad with beloved educator and New York Times bestselling author Kate Messner (@katemessner), because the latest installment of the History Smashers series is busting the biggest misconceptions about the Space-Race, and the facts are blasting off in 10-9-8…

On April 14, 1969, President John F. Kennedy announced that the U.S. would put a man on the moon kicking off the Space Race, right? WRONG! The Space Race was already well underway by 1969…and honestly, the U.S. was lightyears behind the Russians when it came to space exploration.

Alright, but once the U.S. got going, it was smooth sailing to the stars, right? Not exactly. Space exploration always comes with risk, and the truth is to learn about our universe, it took the work of many scientists, politicians, and passionate everyday citizens like you.

Grab your helmet because HISTORY SMASHERS: THE SPACE RACE hits stores and libraries everywhere on July 21! Preorder today and complete your collection. ☄️

What a perfect week to launch HISTORY SMASHERS: THE SPACE RACE! Super grateful to illustrators @dmeconis (cover art) and @falynnk (interior art) for collaborating with me to bring Space Race history to life. This book twelve in our acclaimed myth-busting history series from @randomhousekids and like the others, it deconstructs popular myths and shares a boatload (er…rocket load?) of hidden history, too. Here’s the official blurb from Random House.
