One of the most powerful scenes is Groove Junkies project came when @shannalim_slimboogie challenged us to celebrate young dancers around the world including at Invisible Kids Academy.

That call still matters, and this is an invitation to every leader of a dance program and every parent investing in a young dancer’s journey.

Special recognition goes to @dreamhouseuganda, @peterarizmendi, @invisiblekidsacademy, and @dqdlg for giving youth dancers not only technique but history, culture, and pride in the lineage they represent.

If you work with youth dancers or are raising one, bring them to Washington DC for our all styles youth jam on Saturday, December 13. It is a space for connection, inspiration, and celebrating the next generation.

So much innovation has moved through the Adams Morgan neighborhood of Washington DC and into the wider world, but this project was a turning point for WBL. The choreography that emerged from this 2020 moment traveled from DC streets to creative communities as far away as @srilakshmi in India, proving that movement can cross borders even when the world feels closed. The dancers who showed up for this first Groove Junkies film did more than perform, they set a cultural shift in motion.

Be part of our inaugural Dance Festival, The Way You Move, happening this December 13th-16th across Washington DC. Details, tickets and registration at wblinc.org/thewayyoumove

The energy, precision and creativity in this Groove Junkies video show how youth carry joy into every style of dance, pushing culture forward while honoring the legacy passed down to them. Thank you @peterarizmendi for continuing to hand down tradition in our community and shaping the next generation of movement innovators. @shannalim_slimboogie thanks for making sure our youth dance community had time to shine in this series of dance performances from around the world and right in our back yard.

Join us on December 13 for Top Notch, small fry edition as part of the inaugural The Way You Move Festival. Get details, tickets and registration information at wblinc.org/thewayyoumove

Join us for the inaugural The Way You Move Festival this December 13-16th and experience two of the DMV’s most beloved dance events, Top Notch and The Freshest of All Times, as they kick off a weekend of movement, artistry, and community. Top Notch brings an all styles youth jam that highlights creativity, originality, and skill, lifting up the next generation of DMV dancers. The Freshest of All Times follows with a high-energy 2v2 bboy and bgirl jam for adults that brings battle culture to the forefront with power, precision, and history.

Both jams have deep roots in Washington DC’s dance community, shaping dancers who have represented the DMV on national and international stages. These events honor our past and fuel our future, bringing together emerging movers, seasoned competitors, and dance lovers who live for the cypher. Whether you are battling, freestyling, or supporting from the crowd, these experiences are built to uplift talent and build community.

This celebration of dance in the DMV and beyond is a series of events you do not want to miss. Get tickets and full festival details at wblinc.org/thewayyoumove

Thinking back on the first Groove Junkies project, the memory that stays sharp is the courage and creativity of DMV dancers who came outside at a time when the world was shut down. When streets were empty and gathering felt impossible, these artists chose movement, community, and collaboration. Their commitment turned a quiet city into a living stage and helped launch a project that still celebrates our dance community today.

This work would not have been possible without the vision of @shannalim_slimboogie, whose leadership and artistic direction brought dancers together and inspired people across the region. @kimahawk gave us LIFE in the opening.

The project is a reminder of what DMV dancers do best, transforming any space into a place for expression, innovation, and joy. Shout out to @flexmathews for his cameo and for one of @misschelove iconic murals for making an appearance too.

Now we are calling dancers and dance lovers to step back into that energy. Join us this December at The Way You Move festival at venues throughout Washington DC. Be part of the battles, the cyphers, the workshops, the showcases, and the community. Full details are available at

@steeltoe11 gets the job done. If you have ever seen him live, you know he is a master of movement. This Groove Junkies excerpt captures his ability to turn the built environment into a stage, with a brief cameo from his cousin @jouletrix.

@jouletrix moves on an entirely different level. His contribution to the Groove Junkies project stands out with precision, creativity, and mastery. @shannalim_slimboogie did an excellent job of selecting all the dancers to be part of this project.

As one of the strongest dancers in the United States, he earned his spot at @justedebout_washingtondc and traveled to Paris in 2020, but unfortunately was cancelled because of COVID. Because of that win, in 2024, he was able to be part of the reboot advancing to the international finals in Germany at Sporthalle Hamburg.
