☢️ ONE HOUR TO CREATE. ALMOST THREE DECADES OF DAMAGE.

Some records are carefully planned for months.

The 1 was created in approximately ONE HOUR and was never originally intended to be released.

Mampi Swift made it purely as a dubplate: a devastating personal weapon built for his own sets. The title came from the speed of its creation but then something extraordinary happened.

When Swift took the track to Leon RIP 🤍 💫 at the legendary Music House to have the dubplate cut, Leon heard it and immediately declared:

“IT’S THE ONE.”

The name had chosen itself.

Released with The Journey on the reverse, CHARGE003 arrived during the first year of Swift’s newly launched Charge Recordings. By then, The 1 had already escaped containment appearing in DJ Kane’s BBC Radio 1 One in the Jungle set months before its official release.

That monstrous opening signal. The silence. The rising pressure. Then drums and bass engineered with one purpose:

TOTAL IMPACT.

🧬 DEEP VAULT DETAIL: The 1 was recorded at Trinity Studios the home of the S.O.U.R. and Emotif sound and engineered by another future heavyweight: Ed Solo.

Its legacy kept evolving. Swift rebuilt the idea as The One 2K in 2001, before InsideInfo re-engineered the original for a new generation in 2018.

Meanwhile, Charge grew from Swift’s personal outlet into an essential proving ground, releasing early music from future giants including DJ Fresh, Friction and Sigma.

🇯🇪 Vanguard Archives: Mampi Swift’s legacy also became part of our own journey when we booked him for our Terminology event in Plymouth and had the privilege of playing alongside him. Sharing a lineup with one of Drum & Bass’s greatest double-drop pioneers remains a very special chapter in our history.

One hour in the studio became nearly three decades of influence.
