Abiding.

A week ago, Pastor Mark asked everyone to think of a word they’d use to describe me. Over the last week, I’ve been trying to think of a word, too. Over the years, there’s probably been a lot of words that could describe me: husband, brother, stubborn, sarcastic, consistent, frustrating,…

For the last week, ‘pastor’ has been added to the list. As much as it feels like a conclusion of years worth of meetings and learning, I think it’s more of a start. And with this start, I need a word for who I want to become.

Whenever my time as a pastor comes to an end, I hope that people would describe me as one who abides. Because I know that I need to abide in order to be faithful with this calling. So that’s my prayer — and I’d appreciate if you’d pray for me, too.

I remember having a conversation at breakfast with my Pops when I was 15 years old, and he asked me “So son, do you want to be a pastor one day?”, and I remember responding “NO.” 😂
It’s funny looking back on and seeing how God truly orders our steps, how he would place me on this path to becoming a pastor, in spite of all my insecurities and doubts.

I’m extremely grateful for my Pops, for his consistency in ministry throughout my entire life, for instilling in me a heart for this city and for its people. He not only introduced me to Jesus, but has lived out why following Jesus is the best decision anyone could ever make. I wouldn’t be where I am today without his example, support, and belief in me.

I’m extremely grateful for Pastor Justin. When I walked into the REO Town Venue 4 years ago, he was the reason my wife and I were bought in. He saw potential in me that I didn’t even know was there, and encouraged me along the way bringing out that potential. Words can’t describe how thankful I am for him.

I’m also extremely grateful for Pastor Noel. He has not only become one of my biggest mentors, but also one of the greatest examples of Christ-likeness I have ever encountered. He not only has poured out his abundance of wisdom to me from his many years of ministry experience, but has also shown me how to live in Christ-like humility and navigate the weight of pastorship.

I’m excited to serve at @rivchurch as the REO Town Venue Director. I know it will be a learning experience, but I am grateful to have such a great group of mentors, pastors, friends, and family surrounding me and supporting me along the way. 🙏🏽
